ENTRY 8

06.03.63.05.13

I have spent the last few days living with, and learning from the Zartoon. They seem to be a peaceful species who live by the Earth saying, "Live and let live." Even when one of them had a problem with another one it was settled by discussion only. Pandorica said that it had been that way for at least ten thousand generations. The way I figured it was that these creatures seemed more advanced than any civilization on Earth.

I was allowed to wander around the city without an escort. I spent the afternoon talking with the hybrids and some of Humans who lived in the Zartoon city. Each and every one of them said the same thing... Zartoon were friendly and caring of the Humans who decided to live amongst them.

"How does the Human population maintain itself," I asked one of the older of the Humans. He just laughed as he replied.

"We do not mate with the Zartoon because we have to," he said. "That is just a benefit. We, Humans, have our families and do mate with other Humans. As a matter of fact, we marry in the ancient Yartook traditions. We have been here for less than 500 generations, but we are happy here. The humans in the city speak of us, but here the Zartoons do not treat us as they say. We are not captives. We are not slaves. We choose to live here and stay separate from the Humans in the Human city. In the last generations, the Humans in their city have become monsters. They mistreat the Zartoon, who live there and use them as slaves and sexual objects. That was the main reason we left and came here." When he had finished speaking, I graciously thanked the man, for all he had told me and went on my way.

The rest of the day and evening I spent with Pandorica talking about her culture, the arts, the poetry. From what I heard and seen the Zartoon in their city were decent "people" who have a heart and soul the same as many Humans I vaguely have flash memories of.

I must admit meeting those Humans made me wonder what happened to the Earth I loved. Did they finally blow it up? No, I could see it every night... so odds were, we had poisoned the planet so badly that we couldn't live there anymore. Is that what happened, is that why I am here? But I still look across the galaxy at the blue star before I go to sleep, and I wonder.
