My pen tapped against the diner table, creating an interesting beat before i was asked about my plan.
"I don't exactly have a plan for the project." I said to the group. Everyone found that funny, like I was joking, but I wasn't.
"Leah, not having a plan for an art project? Leah not having a plan at all?" My cousin teased. I couldn't help but roll my eyes at Sams tone.
"Arts your favorite subject," Brenton pointed out. "What's stopping you?"
I looked at the boy beside me, nineteen years of beauty starring back at me. "Right now, the fact you all forced me into a booth at Steak 'n Shake."
"Why're you even stressing about it? Just draw something up like you normally do." Carson said like she had the whole answer written on the back of her hand.
Tony shook his head and messed with his durag. "She was chosen to present the piece at the graduation this year, Carson. It's kind of a big deal."
I pinched my straw, bringing it to my lips and taking a sip of my vanilla milkshake. "It's a huge deal." I corrected.
"You'll do great." Brenton said, kissing my cheek.
"Thank you." I met my blue eyes to his dark brown ones and he smiled a big smile, leaving no prisoners.
"Can you two-" before Sam was able to finish her intrusive, spoken many times statement, I kicked her leg under the table and scowled her.
"Stop." I mouthed. She rolled her eyes and rubbed her shin under the table.
"Do you have any ideas?" Carson asked.
"I was thinking a mural, of a few important things that have happened the past three years." I looked at everyone's reaction, all in all, they seemed to think it was an okay idea. "Maybe not, though."
I sipped my milkshake again, looking down at my fries. Everyone else was talking about the senior year, but I didn't want to think about it. I was scared because I had no idea what I wanted to do after high school. This is the year I was supposed to know and I didn't even have a clue.
"I have to go." Brenton said looking down at the screen of his phone. I looked at his screen and saw a text from Brian. I rolled my eyes and sighed. "I'll see you later." He kissed my cheek and said bye to everyone at the table.
"Wheres he going?" Sam asked.
"Brian." I said and she and tony knew immediately what that meant. That meant Wayside was calling. That mean that he was in need at the Cold Croc.
"Who's Brian?" Carson asked. "Does he go to our school?"
"No, Cars, it's waysiders leader." I said biting into a salty fry.
"Oh, the vipers?" I nodded and took another bite.
"Maybe you should paint a mural of nothing but vipers. That would seem to get his attention." Sam said coldly. Tony scowled and looked at me.
"Don't do that." I looked out the window and no longer saw his car parked. Great.
"Why're you upset?" Carson asked confused. "You knew he was part of Wayside."
"He leaves at the worst times. He always leaves." I said. I knew I sounded dramatic, but he didn't have to leave. He didn't have to chose them every time we're together, but he does.
"Are you two ever going to actually date?" Sam asked me. Tony looked at her in disbelief. Even after all of these years of us being friends, she still tends to shock him. It's quite funny. But that's just Sams personality, she speaks without a filter like a cheap motel ac unit. She never knows when too much is too much.
