i wasn't familiar with the voice so i couldn't place it to a face. i was as confused as ever and had no clue who the stranger was i my family house, then my wayside instincts kicked in. i dropped my bag and quickly made my way to the girl, i gripped her shoulder in my right hand and with my left i pulled her wrist behind her back, slamming her face into the table.
"Fuck." The girl yelled and tried to move against the table but the grip I had prevented her from doing so. All I could think about was how proud Brian would be in this moment. "You wayside ass bitch. Get off me."
"Who are you?" I asked steadily.
"Get off me and I'll explain." She hissed. I lifted her arm only to slam her back into the table, nose first.
"Try anything and I will wear your fucking fingers as a necklace." I said above her shouting. I stepped back and stared at her.
"They said you only joined a month ago. What the hell." The girl stood up and clenched her nose, I watched and followed her into the kitchen, seeming like she's been her hundreds of times. She grabbed two paper towels and pressed them against her bloody nose. "I already hate you by the way. Good luck making up for this."
I didn't respond, instead I continued watching her every move. I remembered everything brian and Brenton taught me and was ready to pull every move from my pocket.
"Who are you?"
"My names Adyn." She pressed her palms against the counter and jumped on the counter, tossing her napkins to the side.
"Who are you?"
"You can't put it together?" She asked picking up her hair between her fingers and violently shaking it. "I'm your sister Leah." Looking at her blonde hair and blue eyes I could have pieced that together if I truly wanted to, but I didn't want to even assume that she could be my sister.
"My mom isn't able to have children. I was a miracle child." I said full of defense.
"That's what they told you?" I nodded my head. "Well, i was supposed to be the miracle child, then you came along. Happy?"
"My mom isn't able to have children." I repeated. "You're not my sister."
"Oh come on, i was always around, whether you knew me or not. I remember watching you over water plants because you were so giving. What happened?"
"Stop acting like you know me."
"You have questions, I get that, but I have some of my own." Adyn jumped off the counter and walked past me, I turned to follow her. "Why Brayton? I always thought you would go for Tony."
"His names Brenton." I corrected.
"Okay, why Brenton?"
"I ask the questions." I took a deep breath and grabbed her arm before she could move any further away from me. "Why are you here?"
"Dad called me. My turn. Why Brenton?"
"Why did dad call you?" I said then took another breath before saying, "he was something to lean against. Solid and violent and unmoving."
"I'm good at tracking down people, you needed tracking." Adyn sat on the couch and crossed her legs. I sat in front of her on the coffee table. "I'm happy you found something solid."
"What'd you get out of it? Tracking me down, I mean. You don't get to be happy for me, I don't know you. You don't know me."
"You're too precious to this family's blood, even I couldn't let that go. But, I was promised to be unshunned."
