A knock sounded at the front door, breaking me from my concentration. I placed down the knife and the sharpener I was working on and walked out of the kitchen, I saw Brenton in the living room and he was standing up.
"It's okay," I said. "I got it."
I unlocked the front door and pulled it open, I smiled when I saw sam. She hadn't spoken to me ever since our argument and I had began to worry.
"I'm sorry, Leah," she said softly, her voice cracking as she spoke. I felt my eyebrows pull together in confusion until I saw my mom walk from around the wall.
"No," I stepped back and cocked my head to the side, I could see the tears falling down Sams cheeks as she stood there shaking her head.
"She made me," she cried. "I'm sorry."
"Leah," my moms voice was soft but rough, controlled. "I think it's time that we talked."

I jogged downstairs, past the guards, and into the kitchen. I grabbed a bag full of brownies off the counter and plucked one from the container. I could still hear the tune from the music upstairs and started dancing in front of the fridge.
"I put the record on, wait til I hear our song, every night I'm dancing with your ghost." I sang tossing a brownie chunk into my mouth.
"Well, this is a sight."
Quickly, I turned around and braced myself on the counter, looking at ashton.
"I thought you went out!" I yelled feeling my cheeks burn magma.
"And now I'm back," he smiled and lifted up two white Walmart grocery bags. "I got food for dinner tonight."
"Oh," I watched him unload the bag slowly, calculating his moves. I knew that Brenton and tony walked with the same calculated steps, that they moved so oriented because of wayside and I couldn't help but wonder if ashton moved with the same delicate touch because of greenland.
"You're starring."
"I know," I said placing the jar of brownies on the counter. I dusted my hands on a rag before wrapping my arms around his waist, as always, aware of where his wound was. "How was your trip?"
I still wasn't keen on him leaving and go out when he was still recovering from his injuries, but there was no way to keep him inside.
"I just went to Walmart, love." He said chuckling. He took a bottle of ketchup out of the bag and placed it into the refrigerator.
"Was there a shooting at Walmart, or . . . " I let the question hang in the air, pressing my nose to his back, I could smell the gun powder on him.
"No?"
"Did you go to greenland?" I asked stepping away from him, he turned with a sheepish grin. "This isn't funny, Ashton."
"Vivian," he said cooly, he closed the fridge and reached for me. I slapped his hand away.
"You're an ass," I said moving away from him, his piercing eyes shot a warning my way.
"Viv-"
"No. Stop talking."
I grabbed the jar of brownies and my phone and left the kitchen. The guard, nathan, and rolled my eyes when he gave me a pitied look.
"My apologies miss Taylor, I should have warned you he was grabbing his gun." Nathan said before I could slip past him.
"Yes, you should have."
I walked up the stairs and i to our bedroom, I pushed the door closed and sat on the bed. I pushed my legs under the covers and plucked a brownie from the container.
