Hi , I want to put this up here so hopefully you'll stop and read it , but i just wanted to apologize for not updating recently. So much has been going on and I haven't had the time to sit and write , but I promise I'm going to work on it ! Please enjoy :)
Sirens blared as i shifted gears, silently i prayed that I didn't skip a gear and stall out.
"One more mile," my mom said from the passenger seat.
"Is anyone behind us?"
"You're good," she said. "You've got this, Leah."
Right. I've got this.
With a quick gesture, i turned the wheel to the left, quickly making a sharp turn. "One more mile," I whispered to myself. "One more mile and then we're out of wayside."
Finally, the wooden sign was in view. 'Now leaving wayside' in bold letters zoomed past my view and i slammed on the breaks.
"What're you doing?" My mom shouted bracing herself on the dashboard.
"I have to wait for Brenton," I said looking in the rear view mirror. "Come on, please Brenton." I begged.
"Leah we need to get out of here," my mom yelled, glaring at me. I ignored her and kept looking in the mirror. He was right behind me, i couldn't have lost him.
"I'm driving a fucking miata," I cried out. "There's no way i lost him. We have to go back."
"Are you out of your damn mind?"
"Momma," I cried looking at her. "What if he's in trouble?"
"Then there's no reason for you to get in trouble as well," she said. "Go!"
With one last glance in the mirror, i shifted gears and started down the road.
"Grab my phone," I said tossing her my device after looking down at it to unlock it. "Call ashton."
"Now is not the time for chit chat, Leah."
"We're in greenland," I said. "We need somewhere to go."
"We can get a motel."
"I'm part of wayside," I said. "Greenland knows that. The only person in this town that will help us is ashton, now call him."
My mom sighed but flipped through the contacts in my phone and called Ashton's cell.
"Put it on speaker," I said.
"Leah?" Ashton's voice rang through my speakers. "What's wrong?"
"I need to go to your house." I said. "I have nowhere else to go."
"What happened?"
"I have no time to explain," I said going around a car that was driving too slowly. "Send me your address please."
"Sending it now."
My mom hung up and then a message popped onto the screen. "I know where that's at," my mom said. "Keep going straight but take a right on Browns Creek."
.
I pulled into a circular driveway and looked at my mom, she looked uneasy.
"What aren't you telling me?" I asked shutting the car off. Someone walked out the front door and I saw Vivian, Ashton was walking out behind her.
"Nothing, just weird being on this side of the border."
I nodded my head before climbing out of the small car. I was engulfed in a hug before I could react, Vivian's arms squeezed me tightly and I had to remind myself to stay strong.
