Later that evening I found myself down stairs staring at the black screen on the flatscreen TV. My mom walked in, and sat down on the leather couch next to me. The couch caved in a little, and I almost fell over but I saved myself by placing my small hand on the cold leather. She rubbed my back with her warm right hand, and sighed.
"Austin's dad called, Austin is on his way here right now." She said soothingly
"Really?" I asked a little hopeful
"Yeah, he couldn't let you suffer alone anymore is what his dad said." She sadly chuckled
"I missed him.."
"I know."
She then went to the kitchen and came back. She held a cup of tomato soup, and set the hot cup in my hands that rested on my lap. She gave me puppy dog eyes, and I gave in. I took a small spoon full of the red soup, and set it in my mouth. It burned my mouth from being so hot, and the metal spoon hitting my teeth made my cringe. I stuck it out, and ended up eating all of it. I was starving, and I felt horrible about it. After two hours of staring at the blank tv, there was a loud knock on the door. I didn't bother to move, I was too spaced out and numb. My mom opened the door cautiously, and before I could move my head to see who it was I was slammed into a hug. The muscular arms where something I missed so much, so I wrapped my arms around him too. Austin was home, he was with me, and that meant no more suffering alone.
Austin Robert Carlile who is currently 17, is my best friend. He is always there for me, and he gives the best hugs. He always smells of vanilla, which is probably because he helps his mom out with the cooking.
"Emily, I've missed you." He whispers as I breath in the sent of vanilla.
"Oh trust me, I've missed you more." He pulled away from the hug, and looked me over. He furrowed his eyebrows, and put his hands on my torso."You haven't been eating." He states.
"I did a couple hours ago..but other than that it's been a week..I think."
"I knew I should of came home sooner."
"You should of stayed... I feel bad for ending your vacation so soon."
"Mom wanted me to come."
I lightly smiled and nodded. I then took Austin up stairs, and into my room. He stood in the door way shocked. When I turned on the light in my room I could see him clearly. The bags under his eyes were dark, his brown hair messed up, he was wearing a black slipknot tank and blue jeans, his nose ring was in too. His brown eyes held sorrow in them, and it hurt me to see him sad. I slipped into my bed, and got underneath the covers. I curled into a ball and watched as Austin began to pick everything up, and put it back.
"Au-"
"It's fine, you know I don't like mess." He chuckled trying to cover up the sadness he felt from seeing me this way.
I closed my locker, and gripped my notebook and romantic novel tightly.
"Em!" I heard Austin's deep voice yell at me. I sighed and turned around. There stood Austin, his brown eyes glowing and his hair flipped over his left eye. Next to him stood a boy. He looked about 6'1, short spiked up pitch black hair, bright blue eyes I could stare into forever, he was wearing a grey red hot chili peppers shirt, and jeans.
"This is Jake Blackwood, he's new." Austin said pointing to him, noticing me staring into his eyes.
"H-Hi...I'm Emily, Emily Jackson." I said shifting akwardly as my face turned red.
"Nice to meet you."
After that I was in love with him, and lucky for me he was in love with me too.
"Thank you, Austin." I state staring into the white abyss that was my ceiling.
"For what?" He asked setting the last book on the shelf he put back.
"Everything. Being my friend, introducing Jake to me, laughing with me, crying with me, caring about me...You are the best person ever." I sniffled and closed my eyes. I didn't get a response, but soon I heard the click of the light switch. Austin laid down in the cold bed, and wrapped his arms around my waist. I blushed a little as he pulled me to his chest.
"You are too amazing to not be treated that way." He mumbled clearly tired from flying. I smiled and continued to stare off into the blackness that was behind my eyes.
•nightmare•
Jake was being strangled by Miles. His black hair in his face, and his hands grabbing onto Miles I tried to run towards him, but someone punched my in the jaw. I looked up at the figure from the cold cement floor. Kendra. She had her grey dyed hair pulled up, her eyebrow was pierced. She was wearing a tank top and blue acid wash jeans.
"Where the hell are you goin'?" She spat out at me
"I'm trying to save my boyfriend!" I yelled at her struggling to get up.
"Oh please, he doesn't care about you." She scoffs tripping me once I get to my feet.
"I don't have time for this."
I got up and punched her, then ran over and jumped on Miles. I clawed at his eyes as he cursed at me. I jumped off and ran at Jake. We kissed, and then he gasped. I looked down to see a knife going through his stomach, and barely touching mine.
"No..." I whispered crying. "No...no..no. NO!"
"JAKE WAKE UP PLEASE BABY...you can't leave me like this.
•wake up•
"Sh, it's okay Hatchi." Austin said calming me
"H-He's gone..." I state laying back down
"Yeah, he is..."
|time skip to trial|
I stood completely still, looking at myself on the mirror. I was shaking from horror? Yes. No. Today was trial day number 1. I was wearing a black pencil skirt, a white button up shirt and a black blazer over it. My hair was straightened and resting on my shoulders, and I decided not to do any make up because I knew I would cry it off. Austin walked into my bedroom wearing suit pants and a button up shirt. His hair was spiked up, and his eyes looked dreary.
"It'll be okay, I'll be there." He states as he grabs my hand. The car ride there was the longest most horrific thing ever. I was shaking and breathing heavily the whole time. I was escorted to the front, and Austin sat next to me. I gently laid my hands on my lap, and closed my eyes.
"All rise." A strict female officer announced. We all stood up as the judge walked in. She banged her gavel twice, and we all sat down. The officer announced everything, and then Miles walked in. He was in handcuffs, and a prison uniform. The judge who was a black lady who seemed in her forty's, nodded at the lawyer.
"I would like to call up Miss. Jackson." He stated.
I got up, and made my way to the stand. I sat down, and my whole body shook.
"Emily is it?" The lawyer who looked in his 50's asked me.
"Y-Yes." I said leaning into the mic
"And you had romantic relations with Mr. Blackwood, correct?"
"That is correct." I took a deep breath, and looked over at Austin who nodded his head at me.
"Tell us how you know Mr. Johnson."
I took a deep breath and started the story.
"He walked into school one day, and met my best friend, Kendra. Since I was her best friend, I knew that she was interested in him. Once day she got the courage to tell him, and they began dating. When Kendra was 15 she was talking about dropping out to be with Miles, and I kept telling her he wasn't worth it. Next thing I knew, I was in an ally way getting my... Getting my clothes ripped off by him. B-But Jake, who at the time I was only friends with s-saved me." I started crying, and the judge handed me some tissues. I thanked her and dried my eyes.
"And was that the last time you saw Miles?" The lawyer asked
"Yes."
"And do you believe that he killed your boyfriend?" He asked
"I-I'm not really sure. I wasn't given much detail on his death...or the case."
"So, you're saying, if you knew more details you could make a 'yes' or 'no' decision?"
"Yes."
The lawyer nodded, and looked up at me.
"I rest my case."
I then left the podium, and went back to my seat. Austin whispered in my ear that I did great, but I was scared. I knew Kendra was gonna find me, and maybe kill me.
