As soon as we finished eating, Luke insisted on taking the check.
"I'm paying. It's the least I could do after you happily let Claire and I stay with you." He had said.
So after a very unnecessary argument over who would pay, the boys finally gave in and let Luke pay.
It was very nice outside when we left for dinner so we had decided to walk instead of taking the car.
We regretted that now.
It had gotten dark quick and now we had to walk back to this boys' house. It had also gotten a lot colder outside."I really don't like this." I said, uneasiness apparent in my voice. Luke squeezed my hand and kissed the side of my head.
We had already began walking and there were barely any street lights in the area we were in.
The bad thing is, I have an awful fear of the dark.
Luke knows of this fear due to the fact that I always have to have some sort of light on when we sleep. As we continued walking along the sidewalk I got this weird feeling. The kind of feeling I get when I think someone is watching me. I brush it off and just assume it's Luke looking at me. Well I don't really assume, more like I convince myself of it and focus on walking in the dark.
Eventually I calm myself down and finally stop thinking about it.
But just as we turn a corner and I see a sliver of a shadow, my fear returns. And it's worse.
"Did you guys see that?" I asked, tugging on Luke's arm.
"See what?" Harry asked, giving me a confused look.
"There was a shadow. Over there." I pointed towards the dark alley that had a small street light above it that lit it up just enough for it to succeed in completely freaking me out.
"I didn't see anything." Luke said, looking at me like I was crazy.
"I didn't either." Liam said and Niall nodded his head in agreement.
But Louis looked at me and said, "I saw it." In a grim voice.
"Well, was it man? A woman? What?" Harry responded quickly, sounding a lot more scared than Louis had.
"We need to go." Louis said through gritted teeth, with a stern look.
He looked both ways before briskly crossing the street and we all followed behind like lost puppies.
"Louis! What is going on?"
Luke demanded, pulling me along to catch up with Louis. Luke had a death grip on my hand and I have a feeling he wasn't going to let go (or let me out of his sight) any time soon.
"We need to get back to the house first. Then we can talk about it." Louis stated and began walking quicker. We all cooperated and followed behind Louis. I couldn't help but worry though because under all of that seriousness, Louis looked scared.
___
"Alright, mate. Now what is it?" Liam asked as soon as we got in the door.
"It was one of them. And when I say that, I mean it was one of his close workers. It was one of the only men that I know of that knows who he is."
All of the guys gasped, as I just sat there dumbfounded. I didn't know who they were talking about, but I really wanted to know.
"Andy? That was Andy?" Luke asked and Louis nodded his head gravely.
"What was he doing out there? Why would he be following us?" Luke asked, looking extremely confused.
"I don't know what exactly he wants with her, but I have a feeling this has something to do with Claire." Harry said, running a hand through his curls.
My eyes widened at his words, "What? Why would he want me?"
"I have no idea." Harry sighed. We started being more cautious after that Andy character came around. It's been a week and we haven't seen anymore suspicious characters lurking around, but you can never be too careful.
"So, what are we going to do? Stay in hiding forever and fear these people? Why can't we do something about this?" I questioned one day, when we were all laying around one day.
"Claire, we can't risk your safety" Luke sighed, gripping me tighter in his arms.
"I know." I said frustratingly, "But we can't just lay around here and do nothing. We at least need a plan. We can't just waste our lives away in here."
"Claire is right, guys." Louis agreed, sitting up from the couch and leaning his elbows onto his knees. "If we want something to change, we need to make it happen."We discussed it a bit further and we finally decided to take action.
We have no idea what we're going to do or when we're going to do it.
But hopefully we won't fail.
