Luke POV

When I woke up, I was lying on a cold cement floor.
I slowly raised myself from the floor and looked around. I was in a small room with a padlocked door but my whereabouts suddenly didn't matter as a spotted the tiny figured hunkered over in the corner with her arm handcuffed to a pipe.
"Claire?" I whispered in disbelief and gasped as she raised her head.
There was a cut running from her cheek bone to her chin and slight bruising on the left side of her face.
"Baby." I murmured, quickly standing and moving towards her.
"Luke." She managed to say through a sob.
I wrapped my arms around her frail body and she nuzzled into my chest.
"I'm scared." She whispered, her voice cracking slightly at the end.

"Sh, baby. It's okay, I got you." I whispered into her hair as I held her to my chest.

She sat in that exact position and cried for at least another half hour.
I had tried everything I knew of to try and get her to stop crying, but nothing worked.

So when she finally began to calm down, I was relieved when her cries turned into sniffles, then finally stopped altogether. I hated listening to her cry, knowing there was nothing I could do to help her.

She began to still in my arms and I knew she was drifting off to sleep, so I just stroked her hair and rocked her back and forth in my arms until I finally heard those quiet, soft snores that come out of her when she sleeps. The ones I absolutely adore.
I have no idea why I like them so much, I guess just as we sleep at night, it reminds me that she's there.
That's she's right there with me and she hasn't left.

When I woke up, Luke was staring down at me with a small smile on his lips.
"How long have you been staring at me?" I giggled and he shrugged with a smirk on his face.
"Just the whole time you've been sleeping." He said in a casual tone and I laughed slapping his shoulder.
"Creep." I muttered under my breath and he raised his eyebrows with a mock hurt expression on his face.

"Kidding," I laughed, pulling his face to mine a a slow, passionate kiss. "I love you."
"I love you too." He smiled, pulling my lips back to his.

All of a sudden, the door was jolted open, causing us to pull away and a large, bulky man stepped in.
Luke automatically pulled me closer into his side and held me tighter.

He pointed a finger in my direction and spoke gruffly, "You. Come with me."
"What for?" Luke growled, not letting go of me.
"Mr. Edwards wants to see her."
"Well why can't I come with her?" Luke glared.
"He only wants to see her."
The man said, obviously annoyed with Luke.
"I'm not going without Luke." I spoke up, my voice sounding small and frail in comparison to their voices.
"Fine." The man huffed, tapping his foot at us, "Hurry up then."
Luke and I both stood and followed the man out the door.
I was getting nervous and I felt myself begin to breathe unevenly at the thought of what he needed me for.
Luke noticed how I was getting and gave me a reassuring smile before lacing his fingers with him.
This made me feel slightly better, but not much.

I had just recently found out that this man was my father and the news was quite overwhelming.
I had always thought that my dad was halfway across the world by now, as far away from us as he could get but it turns out, he's been right here all along.
As we reached a huge set of double doors, my heart began to face.
And it didn't get any better as the man opened the door and nudged Luke and I through the door.

He sat at his desk, looking at a paper. But when he heard us walk in, his head snapped up and he looked at us with a mischievous glint in his eye. And not the good kind. The frightening kind, the kind that made a chill run down your spine at the mere sight.

"Ah, hello my dear Claire." He said, then his gaze traveled to my hand in Luke's and up Luke's arm to his face.
"Mr. Hemmings. I don't remember asking for you to tag along." He spat at Luke with a menacing glare.
Luke met his glare and muttered, "I wasn't letting her see you by herself."
"You really think you can protect her, don't you? How stupid are you? You really think you can protect her from all the bad things in the world? You have no one on your side. Your four closest friends turned on you, you have no family. And it's not like you have big bulky men that would drop everything and do exactly what you ask them to. But I do. And I can protect her far better than you could."
Luke's glare faltered and for a second his face flashed with realization, but he soon composed himself and said, "I can protect her. And I can make her happy while doing so."
"Make her happy?! Really? Mr. Hemmings, do you really believe your good enough for my daughter?" My dad laughed maniacally when Luke was rendered speechless and bowed his head in disappointment.
That's what set me off.
"You can not stand there and call me your daughter! I may be your offspring by blood relation, but I am not your daughter and I never will be!" I yelled at him and he started to yell back, but I wasn't finished.
"And you think Luke isn't good enough for me? Really? Your the one who isn't good enough for me! You don't deserve a conversation with me, much less a relationship! So stop trying to make Luke believe such idiotic things because you are wrong."
