Nov. 13
Dear Alex,
While we were driving today, you were mumbling to yourself. I looked over at you and your eyebrows were drawn over your eyes and your jaw muscle was hard.
"Are you okay?" I asked.
You looked over at me as if you had just realized I was there. "Yeah. Yeah, I'm fine."
"Alex, what's wrong?"
"Nothing at all." You pulled a smile out of your pocket and stretched it painfully across your face. I pretended not to notice and smiled back.
"Okay," I said. But I'm worried about you. We're driving into this abyss they call the future, we have little to no money, and everything is uncertain. I need you to tell me if something is bothering you.
We're in this together. I am part of you and you are part of me. If one of goes down we go down together.
We're better off this way, anyway.
Love,
Carrie
