Recap:
"I understand what you're saying and although it's unusual, especially for an Alpha, I am willing to take it slow for you. We can start as friends." He said making a genuine smile spread across my face.
'So he can be a rational and decent mate. What a surprise...'
He abruptly and formally stood up, sticking his hand out for me to shake.
"Friends?" He asked tilting his head slightly to the side. My smile widened and I answered on a equally firm voice, that did not meet our eyes, these ones full of hope, and curiosity, and maybe even. ..love.
"Friends."
A few hours later
I was now in my house, playing Call of Duty with Cody, (and getting my ass beated by a 16 year old boy by the way) while Red watched some documentary on how to properly cut a circular cake, even though she could barely make scrambled eggs, much less a cake as pretty and flowery as the on the screen.
Meanwhile Caroline and Derek were discussing what we should make for dinner. Well they should make, since they were the only ones that could cook a proper meal.
'What? I'm not lazy! I just really like microwave food! Amd besides coocking is diffrent now! It's not my fault I didn't learn to work a stove!'
Anyway, after I got my as kicked a few more thousand times, Caroline and Derek decided to order some pizza, since they couldn't decide between fancy dish number 1 and fancy dish number 2. It was ridiculous really. I couldn't decide who was screaming louder: Caroline, Derek or Gordon.
"Hey I want the Hawaiian one!" Said Red not taking her eyes off the screen.
"Hell no! Pepperoni is way better!" Cody protested killing me one more time, making me almost break the controller with my bare hands.
"No way! I want the Vegetarian one!" Caroline said looking at the belly, to assess how her body was. I furrowed my eyebrows at her but I understood: humans have a much lower metabolism than shifters.
Harshly, I got up from my seat and said with part and authority in my voice:
"Look guys, first of all, I don't know how you people do it here, but in my world each person gets a pizza, so you can pick whatever you like. Second of all, Caroline you look fucking great so no need to be all healthy on this. Besides it's pizza, it's supposed to be fat. And just so you know Ashton, Cole and Ian are here in 30 minutes."
I know what you're thinking: 'What the hell is your mate and his friends, ones whom you don't particularly get along with, doing in your house?'
Well, it wasn't my idea, it was Derek's. He doesn't want his friends not getting along with his other friends and coworkers aka Alpha and Beta, so now that the Alpha and I are on speaking terms he thought it would be a good idea to invite everybody to dinner at my house and see how they would get along. Sounds great doesn't it? No. No it doesn't.
You also may be thinking: 'Okay April, that's reasonable (ish), but why on earth is Ian coming? He isn't in any important position, he doesn't really decide anything in the pack, so why is he coming?'
The thing is, my darlings, Cole aka Beta, decided to invite him too, and since he is the almighty number 2, we can't say no. Dick. Also he is Derek's brother so... still I really wished that he didn't come. Obviously.
Anyway, we ordered pizzas for all of us, including out guests that still hadn't arrived and returned to our hobbies, only this time Derek and Caroline were fighting about which pizza was better or something. I was too busy trying to defeat Cody on the same stupid game. In my defense, it was way easier in real life.
