*5 days later*
"All varsity basketball players report to the gym at this time." A voice called across the intercom. I shot Jesse a questioning look before getting up and leaving class.
"I wonder what this is about." She mumbled. I shrugged. We walked to the gym and saw the other girls on our team sitting in the bleachers we sat beside Chandler.
"Girls, we have some bad news." Miss Laura said. She wasn't our coach. Coach Massey was. Why is she calling us in for a meeting? Miss Laura was just a woman that helped with things around the school, but didn't quite work there. "Coach Massey is in the hospital. They found out she has breast cancer, and she isn't looking too well."
It was dead silent. Nobody moved. Nobody spoke. Nobody breathed.
"So that means we don't have a basketball coach." She explained. "I'm searching for a coach, but I haven't found anybody yet."
"We can do it." I spoke up. "The seniors. We know all the plays, right, girls?" I asked the other 12th graders. They all nodded.
"If Alex is coaching, then I quit." Claire said. She stood up and walked out, followed by her three friends that were also seniors.
That's only ten players we have left.
"I don't know if you can handle it, Alex." Miss Laura told me.
"We can." I assured her.
"I don't think I want to play without Coach Massey here." A junior spoke up.
"Me either." A sophomore agreed. The junior and two sophomores left, leaving only seven of us.
"One, two, three, four... That's only seven players!" Miss Laura exclaimed.
"It's fine. We can handle this. I promise." Chandler assured her again.
She sighed. "Well, I guess the three seniors left can coach. It won't be easy. But you volunteered yourselves." She reminded us.
"We can do this." I said, facing Jess and Chandler. I surveyed our team. We had me, Jesse, and Chandler for seniors.
We had one junior, Marissa, and three sophomores, Kelly, Katie, and Hannah.
"Well, we need to start practice as soon as we can. I don't care if my ribs are healed or not. We have a game in three days." I told them, taking over. "Since the boys use the gym after school, we can practice at my house. I have a basketball court. So my house, right after school. If you need a ride just let one of us know."
"How long are we gonna practice?" Kelly asked me.
"Well," I sighed, "we need as much practice as we can get. Plus we need to go over some defensive plays. We have lights around the court and the sun goes down at like seven. So I guess we can practice until nine."
***
"Okay, this is a one-one-three defense." I explained. "We're calling it one thirteen."
"Alex, it's nine thirty." Chandler told me. "We need to stop now."
"Oh shit. Sorry, I didn't realize how late it was." I apologized. "Does everybody have a ride home?" I inquired. Since they all did, I could go straight to my house.
"So care to explain why you had to practice six hours?" Louis asked me. I was freezing, because it's December and I had on a jersey and shorts.
"Turn the heat on." I mumbled, not sure how to do it in his car. He did as he was told. "We found out that our coach has breast cancer and she's not doing well. Jess, Chandler, and me have to take over and coach the rest of this season on our own."
"They're letting you do that?" He asked in disbelief. I nodded and rubbed my arms, trying to get warm.
You're probably wondering what happened to Tanner after the wreck. After being unconscious for days, he finally woke up. He didn't remember the wreck. He had broken ribs, a huge gash in his knee, and a broken arm. He's back in school again. Since he had such a close call, I realized how much I missed him. I thought he was going to die. Now we're good friends again. I introduced him to Nathan as well. They're friends too.
"Tired?" Lou asked.
"A little." I mumbled before my eyelids slowly began closing.
***
I woke up to an extremely good smell. The bed was empty, so Louis must already be awake. I crawled out of bed and glanced at myself in the mirror. I washed my face and tied my hair in a messy bun before leaving my room.
"What's that smell?" I asked, walking I into the kitchen.
"An omelette, for the birthday girl." Lou winked.
"Birthday g- It's my birthday!" I exclaimed in realization.
He chuckled. "How did you forget your own birthday, love?" He inquired. I rolled my eyes at his teasing and sat at the counter while he finished cooking. "Wanna go out later to celebrate?" He suggested.
"I can't." I shook my head. "Basketball practice again."
"Oh, okay." He slightly sighed. "Tomorrow?"
"I have a game tomorrow." I shook my head.
"Then Saturday?" He asked in desperation.
"Uhm... Let me check." I unlocked my phone and went to my calendar application. "I have a basketball tournament that day."
"So we'll be celebrating your birthday after basketball season?" He chuckled.

Kayy shout out to the girl who told me to stop putting so much basketball in my story. I really appreciate that message bitch. It inspired me to write this chapter with lots of basketball in it. ;)
This is MY story. Therefore I decide what happens in it. If I want her to turn into a fucking basketball, then I'll make her turn into a fucking basketball. If you don't like it, then don't read it! Go write your own fan fiction! Don't sit here and bitch about mine! Basketball is a big part in Alex's life, so obviously it will be in the story a lot. I don't care if you like the sport or not. I do and so does Alex.
Lots of love my darlings! :)
