Goodbyes

I decided to leave Peeta to come to terms with the situation and give him some space, while I spoke to the tributes. First I go into room 1 to speak to Madge and Dale. I give a small knock on the door and enter the room. They are sitting peacefully on the sofas and not speaking a word to each other besides looking up occasional to see who is entering the room. I sit down on the sofa next to them and say "OK, so I know you too may not do this but just to let you know, there will be a lot of cameras out there so try to keep the tears and sadness in." The room stays silence as they nod their heads and I decide it's getting slightly awkward in there so I slowly back away out the room.

Next I go into room 2 to see Selina and Harper-lee. They are busy chatting away to each other but I can see Selina has tears in her eyes from seeing her children. "Oh, hello Katniss" Harper-lee says turn around to look at me shortly followed by Selina.

"Hello, I came in to give you a little warning about the next hour or so. There will be lots of camera men and women at the train station and like me 25 years ago they will be all around you. So what I suggest is stay strong and hold back the tears that way you won't be classed as one of the "weaker" tributes. OK?"

"Certainly, what ever you say Katniss, I'll do anything to see my children again" Selina says braving up and getting rid of her tears. I back out of the room and head into room 3. These will be the hardest prep talks. When I walk in I hear whimpers coming from the 2 children in there. Kat is huddled  within the corner will no family to turn to and Charlie is sat happily on the sofa saying goodbye to her best friend John. "OK, guys listen up, it's time to man up, no crying at all now otherwise you'll go down as weak by the other districts and the capitol." I say bursting into the room in a happy mood trying to cheer up the kids.

"OK, Katniss" Charlie says cheerfully waving bye to his friend and getting up to skip around the room. He was very cheerful... for some strange reason.

"OK, Katniss. Will I get to see daddy at all?" Kat says turning around to give me a hug.

"Sorry I don't think so but I can contact him so you can speak to him. I give Kat my mobile to call her dad and walk out the room trusting her to give it back when we got in the taxi to the train. The final room was room 4 containing Harmony and Finn. When I open the door I am greeted by the caring arms of Finn. His tear-stained face rubs against my dress. I give a squeeze, put him down and call over Harmony. "Finn, Harmony listen. I will do everything I possible can to get you two out the arena even if I have to get you out myself. So please don't worry about a thing it's going to be OK. All I can say now is please don't cry, it will put you down as weak in the games." I say giving them a big hug and kiss Finn on the head before leaving the room. Now to find Peeta.

I walk down the hall, past the Register office and down towards the main office. I look everywhere until eventually finding him curled up in the corner of the sofa. "Peeta?" I say in a hushed, calming voice. He respond. I walk up to the sofa and lean him into my arms. "Peeta darling, are you OK?" I give him a kiss on the cheek.

"Why him Katniss? Out of everyone why him? What has he ever done wrong to deserve this?" Peeta says burying his head into my chest and crying his eyes out.

"It's OK Peeta I promise we can do everything we can to protect him, if he needs food or water we'll give it to him. If he needs medicine we'll give it to him. He get out of this."

"If your so sure" He says leaning in to kiss me and we sit there kissing and hugging each other until we are called for the train journey. We all climb into the taxi and sit in silence until we get to the train station and board the train.
