The next day, Peeta and I woke up earlier than usual, got washed and changed before getting down to breakfast by 6:30am. To our surprise Effie and Finn were already sat at the table tucking into a slice of toast covered in strawberry jam and and bacon and tomato sandwich. "Oh good morning Finn, Effie" I say walking over to the buffet spread with Peeta to collect some breakfast. We both get ourselves some hot chocolate and a few rolls each before taking our place at the dining table beside Finn and Effie. "So what brings you two down here this early in the morning?" I ask, "usually we don't come down until 8am because training starts at 10am."
"The thing is Katniss," Effie begins. "I think before we go and sort out some allies for the tributes today, we need to discuss how Finn feels about this alliance with Lucia I mean he did look quite upset yesterday to me" At this point I turn my head to Peeta what I'm I suppose to do if I talk to him he might get upset and if we don't talk to him he might get upset. I give Peeta a worried look. He turns gives me a slight nod of the head and goes back to his breakfast.
"OK, let's do it" I say to Effie with a slight sigh. Once we all have finished our breakfast it is 7:30am and the 4 of us decide to pile into the sitting room as it will be another half an hour until the other tributes come down. "Now Finn," I say putting my arm around him. "I know you may not find this one of the most easiest things to talk about but I'm afraid we have to. Okay?"
"I'm fine mom and I've been thinking about this alliance all night as well." Finn chirps up.
"You have?" Peeta adds with astonishment. We are all surprised and confused at the same time how could boy possibly have decided about how to deal with an alliance he was practically crying about yesterday?!
"Yes, I have." Finn says "I really want to be in an alliance with Kat she's like a best friend to me from like ever since I met her when we were little. But I also think Lucia should be with us too, she was so nice to me yesterday and all I did was push her away, she wants to help I can feel it I just need to give her a chance to do this." We all sit there in amazement, Finn had literally just done his parents job for us.
"Well if that is how you want it sweetheart that's fine we'll sort it out with District 4 today, anybody else you want to have an alliance with?" I ask clearing everything up before the other came down. There was a moment of silence until Finn speaks up and replies
"No mom else you find anyone suitable for me to be with in the games." I give Finn a kiss on the forehead just as the others start to pour down the corridors.
"Morning Katniss, morning Peeta, morning Effie!" Charlie whistles happily skipping into the dining room and high spirited.
"Well someone looks happy this morning," Peeta murmurs to me as we take a seat back at the dining room table with a cup of tea in our hands. Breakfast passes quite quickly this morning and the only talk is about the day's schedule. Once everyone had finished I escorted the tributes down to their 2nd day of training, Peeta closely by my side this time. "Don't let anything get to you today, please, all of you do myself and Katniss proud" Peeta says to the group before letting them loose in the gymnasium. After everyone has headed off, I slip my hand into Peeta's and we walk off together towards the Alliance room. The Alliance room was specially made this year to hold the arrangements for the alliances. This would be kept in secret from the Capitol until the games and only Mentors, Escorts and Tributes would know their own ally arrangements. We walk the room to see many mentors already there are just arriving from the gym and apartments. Across the room there is 12 golden boxes each display a number on the side of a district, these would be where all the alliances would be suggested to each district. Immediately Peeta walks over to Annie, Johanna, taking me with him before I said anything bad to Gale and Beetee. Which was what I was intending to do but if that affected my tributes then maybe it's not one of my best ideas I've come up with. When we get over to Johanna and Annie we are greeted with a big friendly hello. "Morning Girls!" Peeta says cheerful to Johanna and Annie.
"Hey Peeta, hey Kat, how you too doing?" Johanna says turning round to see us.
"We're good thanks Johanna, just trying our best to stay together and not let all of this madness get to us." I reply suddenly gripping onto Peeta's hand for comfort and we decided maybe this isn't the right time to talk about us, we turn our attention to the tributes and their allilances. After putting serveral ally slips into the mentor's boxes this morning we go to our district 12 box and carefully lift up the lid. To our surprise there are multiple slips for the tributes. We picked up the box and carry it over to a table labelled 12 and sit down with Effie and discussed each slip. The first slip to be picked out is for Finn by Lucia from District 4, we automatically ticked the "Yes" box on the reply slip and put it to the side. The next is for Charlie by Luna from district 8. We were all slightly confused about this until district 8's mentor came over and said "Young love is so sweet" that triggered an instant reaction in our minds, still ever so slightly confused we ticked the "Yes" box. The final slip was for Kat also by Lucia and we ticked that one too. After ticking all the slips we put the boxes back make a few notes on the requests we had then make our way back up to Floor 12.
When we return to the elevator we catch up with Charlie. He is standing beside the lift along with Finn, Kat and another girl from a completely different district. "Afternoon everyone," we say cheerfully as the lift opens and we all pile in. Charlie can't take his eyes off this other girl and instantly myself and Peeta get the same thought and nod towards each other. This is the girl from district 8 who requested Charlie's alliance. Once the elevator stops and the girl walks out we are all left in silence until we get to floor 12. The doors open to Effie joyful face and a large buffet of food we help ourselves to the food, eat and then retire to bed after the eventful day.
