We trek through the forest with me infront, Peeta and Johanna behind me and Ross whispering to Chloe and Precious at the back. It is starting to get dark so we find a small cave, embedded in the vast amount of moss and shrubs around the area. We set up cave, Peeta and I at the mouth of the cave side by side, Johanna and Precious to the left side of the cave, Ross and Chloe to the right amd our supplies and equipment to the back of the cave. "So, who's taking first watch then?" Johanna asks putting her axe to the side of her supplies, newly sharpened, ready for her next kill.
"I don't mind taking first watch" I say stepping into my sleeping bag but keeping the side undone.
"Okay," Johanna replies, throwing a pair of night-vision goggles at me. "I'm getting some sleep!" She says jumping into her sleeping bag and curling up to go to sleep. I give a slight giggle and help Peeta into the sleeping bag. He falls asleep some after Ross, Chloe, Precious and Johanna, leaving me alone in the cave watching out for possible attacks or threats. That is when the cannon sounds and the montage begins. I hadn't realised that anyone had died today, it must have been during my sleep very early this morning or at some other point that I just hadn't noticed. The montage begins with Kristien from District 1's face lit up in the sky, shortly followed by Nathan. I had never thought that 2 careers would died at this stage in the games I thought they would at least last slight longer as they are careers after all. The next face to fill the sky is Hermione from District 8 and then Knob from District 8, they were good people from what Finn had told me but I didn't really know much about them. Then the sky went blank and silence took over the cave once more. I couldn't wait to climb the volcano in the morning in fact all I wanted to do right now was run up there and slit Gale's throat but we all knew that would unwise and stupid, especially as Kat's life also depends on this. I decide that now is the time to wake someone else up for the rest of the night's watch. I quietly slip out of the sleeping bag and tap Johanna on the shoulder, she jumps at first but then realises the situation and calms down and orders me to bed. I quickly drift off to sleep, awaiting for morning when the adventure can begin.
The next morning I am woken by he familiar boom of the cannon I shoot up and look around the cave, looking for Peeta but I am soon put to rest by a hand softly gripping mine, Peeta. "Ready for a day's hike to the mountains?" He asks me.
"Ready as I'll ever be," I reply, "who was the cannon for?"
"Oh, that was Taylor, District 11." Peeta says.
"Oh, okay." I say going to collect my supplies from the other end of the cave. Shortly after we leave the cave. Ross and Johanna in front, Chloe and Precious behind them and myself and Peeta at the back. "What's going to happen when we kill Gale, if these people are still alive by then? I can't kill them Peeta they are our friends." I whisper to Peeta, making sure the others aren't listening.
"I don't know yet Katniss, we'll concentrate on the task in hand first and them we can worry about that situation if and when we get to it." Peeta replies. Peeta is always very calm about most things ans tries to take everything one step at a time, whether it is to make tings easier for him or for the other people around him.
The hike to the mountains is long and exhausting. We stop several times for water but only for a minimum of 2 minutes each time. We made steady progress and we finally reach the mountains just before sunset. "We should stop and eat something before we start the climb up the mountains to the volcano as I don't think we will be able to stop once we've started the climb." Ross says. We agree to this and make a small camp besides the mountains and share out some food between the 6 of us. We each get an apple, a small slice of bread, some blackberries from a nearby bush and a couple of crackers we had found at the cornucopia a few weeks ago. The meal is satisfying and we all fill our water bottles up before collecting our weapons and supplies, armed and ready to climb the mountain.
"Remember once we start the climb there's no going back and keep an eye out, he could be anywhere around here so stay armed." Johanna informs us amd with that we begin the climb up the mountain to the volcano. As Ross one of the bestest climbers in the group he went first followed by Johanna, Chloe and Precious. Peeta was the weakest climber in the group. He has never been someone for heights amd climbing, he'd proved that in the 74th and 75th Hunger Games, therefore I let him climb up first and I went behind him.
"Don't worry Peeta, if you slip or get stuck I'll be right behind to help you, okay?" I says as he hesitates to climb the mountain.
"Okay," he replies and with that he puts his hands on the side of the mountians and pulls himself up onto the first ledge. I follow closely behind him and he soon gets the hang of the small ledge but struggles slightly on the high ones needing my assistance. By night fall we had made get progress up the mountains and was now a couple of ledges off the edge of the volcano in which all we could hear was the spitting from the volcano in front of us, the crackling of a wood fire and hushed voices coming from a few metres in front of us. If we were right this was Gale's hideout we had finally found it and very soon we put an arrow through his head or an axe into his heart.
