Going Home?

I awake to Katniss staring into my eyes. She has painfully swollen red eyes presumably from hours of crying. She lights up when she sees me, giving a little smile and putting her head on my good shoulder. I try to move but each time a sharp pain shoots through me due to my shoulder injury. It is now in a home-made brace of tree branches, padded with leaves and Katniss' jacket. "What happened?" I asked being helped up.

"Well Gale's dead and deposed of. That James dude had a massive fight with Electra, she died, leaving only James Coppice roaming around the arena now. Victory will soon be ours." Katniss explains. She gets up, collects a water bottle from her bag and a small tin and comes straight back to my side. She opens the tin, and the savoury smell of soup fills the surrounding area. Hot steam hits my face bringing the delight of some decent food with it. Katniss picks up the small metal spoon and scoops up some of the soup and moves it towards my mouth. I instantly lean forward and slip the soup from the spoon. The warmth hits my mouth, and my taste buds go wild as I indulge in the soup. This is one of the best meals I've had in how ever many weeks we've been in this arena. I eat until I can eat no more and then curling up in the blankets next to Katniss. She also has some soup as well as Kat who is in the corner, sobbing silently. After all she did lose her father, her only remaining family member, yesterday. Katniss quickly finishes her soup and clears up before refilling and purifying our water bottles before resting next to me preparing to change the bandages on my shoulder. She removes the jacket securing my arm as well as the many leaves and branches keeping it in place. Making sure not to cause too much pain, Katniss quickly tends to the wound and bandages it back up again. She helps me to lie down again in the blankets against her.

"Do you think James will try and find us? We are only hiding in a cave plus 2/3s of us are mentally or physically in pain." I ask Katniss slightly worried by the fact we are barely ready to fight but we still have the threat of attack bearing down on us.

"No idea Peeta, Electra was strong. She wouldn't have lost a fight without injuring the other person in some way beforehand." Katniss replies. She is absolutely exhausted, so I sit up and stay on guard while Katniss drifts off to sleep next to me.

Over the next few hours nothing much happens. I am just sitting in the blankets watching Katniss and Kat curled up asleep nearby, not making a sound. The sky is clear and the fake stars in the arena twinkle brightly. I start to think about what I will have if we do end up going home. What will I tell Rose, about her brother dying innocently in the games. That's when I remember our mocking jay pins. I look down to see our family mocking jay pin firmly attached to an inside pocket of my jacket and the faint glint of Katniss' pin of her jacket around my arm. I unclip hers as best as I can and attach it to her t-shirt before she starts to stir and turns over to face the other way. I giggle and lean back against the wall starting to daydream about things that weren't worth daydreaming about...

BOOM!

...Is that what I thought it was???...
