100th Hunger Games

Final Interviews and the Ceremony

Katniss' POV

Within the next hour I am dressed in a plain red silk dress that was so long it dragged on the floor behind me and high-heeled golden shoes. Pretty much similar to my pre-games interview outfit from the 74th Hunger Games. My mockingjay pin was pinned onto the strap of the dress, slightly covered by my long wavy hair. Peeta stood next to me looking amazing wearing a jet black shirt with a red blazer, black trousers, a bright red belt and some red shoes also complete with our his mockingjay pin. In front of us Kat stood quietly wearing a silver dress and small silver shoes, having no link to our clothing what so ever. President Paylor and Casear Flickerman had also requested that Effie, Haymitch and Rose came on stage with us too. Therefore Rose came in a small red dress similar to my own complete with her mockingjay pin. Haymitch wore the same as Peeta just the red was changed to gold complete with his golden bangle and Effie wore a red butterfly dress and her hair dyed it's usual golden colour. Together we had recreated the gold team just as we had done in the 75th games but added Rose (and Finn) too. I held Finn's mockingjay pin in my hand and we were soon called to the stage. Kat and Rose walked on first, followed by Haymitch and Effie leaving myself and Peeta to follow on last but receiving a large applause as we came on. We took our seats inbetween Rose and Haymitch and let the interview begin. Casear did not really address us as much at first while he introduced a short movie clip showing our journeys through the games, the way we merghed in one team towards the end and finally the death of Finn and Gale. Of course they were going to show that, why wouldn't they, it's the loved ones of myself, Peeta, Rose and Kat not to mention the sort of grandson to Haymitch and Effie. When the video ended, Casear introduced all 6 of us and began briefly talking to Kat about her father Gale Hawthorne. She became all teary by the second question so Casear cut it short and moved onto Peeta and I. "So Mrs and Mr Mellark, who would have though we would see you hear again as 3rd time victors in the deadly pagent known as the Hunger Games! What joy! How do you feel to be here yet again representing District 12 for your honor and estonishing sacrifice?" He beam towards us; unsure what to say I reply the first thing that comes to mind, "it was not our decision to enter these malicious games for a 3rd time, it was your twist that altered our future." Peeta looks uneasy again as interviews I must admit are not his strong point anymore as they used to be before the dark days mark II. I take hold of his hand and squeeze it slightly giving him a vote of confidence do as Casear asks,

"and what about your son Finn how do you think he would find your new successes?" I feel a tear coming to my eye but I shake it off and reply,

"Finn died in your stupid, desparate games, you only put them on to entertain the revolting people who are the Capitol. As much as Finn would be pleased we our new successes, he would never die in vain and I wish I could turn back in time and switch places with Finn but we all know that could never happened could it?!"

"No,I suppose not Mrs Mellark. Thank you. Now little Rose, Haymitch, Effie what is your reaction to the death of your beloved Finn?" Casear asks, he just as vile as usual and I can feel Peeta getting worse by the second according to the tension being enflicted onto my hand.

"Finn, was an amazing 7 year old, and I'm sure everyone else on this stage will agree with me that he should never have been killed in the way he was. He was too young to die and never experienced that chance to be somebody. Now this is not the normal procedures we take in 12; I'm sure they can make an exception. We are going to have a private send off for Finn and that is the way we will remember him." Haymitch explains looking at Effie who is quietly sobbing.

"And finally Rose, what do you think of this situation regarding your brother?" Casear asks grinning evilly and Peeta tensing up beside me.

"YOU ARE A MURDERER! YOU KILLED MY BROTHER! GET AWAY YOU NASTY MAN!" Rose screams tears streaming down her face and Effie running off stage after her with Haymitch closely behind.

"Well maybe it is time to welcome our own, President Paylor to award our victors with their crowns." The crowds goes wild cheering as President Paylor makes her way to the stage followed by 3 avoxs each carrying a golden crown laid upon a silk pillow. It all goes pretty quick as she places a crown on first Kat, then Peeta and finally myself and finishing by whispering to me "Nice try Katniss, but it will never work, I'm too strong, you'll never be able to overrun me as a rebel. Your time is over." With that she walked off stage. They was one final applause and we are dismissed off stage and Peeta and I run over hand in hand to find our Daughter along with Haymitch and Effie to prepare for the journey home.
"You tell them Sweetheart!" Haymitch says to me as we walk along.
"Well they've messed with the Girl on Fire more than enough over the past 30 years. It's time they had a taste of their own medicine. As for Rose clearly Caesar has no heart and no children. Rose is drowning in grief and all he can do is rub it in!" I reply with anger in my voice.
"Anyway we better get to the train now, back to the comfort of home." Haymitch says giving me a hug and escorting me to the train behind Peeta, Kat, Rose and Effie. Haymitch has always been like a second father to me, I am definitely lucky to have him.
