Chapter 58

"Oh, hello again my kitten," Jordan said as he saw me hiding in the corner. From this position, he seemed to tower over me, even though I was taller than him when I was standing at my full height. As usual, a cigarette was hanging out of his mouth.

"Don't call me 'kitten,'" I mumbled.

"Whatever, kitten," Jordan said. "Are you coming with me or not?"

"I'm not going anywhere," I said. "It's not safe yet."

"You'll be safe with me," Jordan said. "Come on. I know somewhere we can go."

"Ivy, who is that, and how do you know him?" Maya asked.

"Don't worry about him," I told Maya.

"Just be careful, Ivy," Maya warned. "He seems kind of creepy."

"Jordan's perfectly fine," I told Maya. "You just don't understand him." I turned to Jordan and asked, "Where are we going?"

"You'll see," Jordan said as he grabbed my hand. He began to sprint out of the mall, and I ran along with him.

"Jordan, where are we going?" I asked. "I need to know so I can text my grandma. She told me to stay at the mall until the demons are gone."

"Stop worrying so much," Jordan said. "You need to learn how to live a little."

"I think I'm doing perfectly fine in that department," I said. "Raj, Henri, Jack, and I even went into Hell to rescue Maya when she got taken!"

"First of all, are you sure all of those boys are gay? I'm still not convinced that you don't have a mob of boys chasing after you," Jordan said. "Second, that's not that impressive. I'm in Hell all the time."

"It is impressive! You're only in Hell all the time because you were sent there," I argued. "Also, Raj isn't gay, but we're just not interested in each other."

"Are you sure about that?" Jordan said.

"Yes!" I exclaimed. "Are you trying to say that boys and girls can't just be friends? Because that's totally not true."

"It's true, at least from my experiences," Jordan said. "Hey look, we're here."

I looked around. We were standing in an unfamiliar neighborhood, in front of a relatively normal-looking house. I wasn't entirely sure why we were here, so I looked over at Jordan.

He was opening up a book of matches.

"What are you doing?" I asked him as he lit a match.

"This is the house where my parents live," he said. "I'm going to bring them to Hell with me, so they can experience the torture that I have to endure every single day!"

"Jordan, calm down!" I said. "What is wrong with you?"

"I'm going to destroy them!" Jordan shouted as he began to throw the match towards the house. I immediately snatched it from him and blew it out.

"Jordan, please just stop," I said. "I don't know what's wrong with you, but you can talk to me."

"Fine," Jordan said. "Ivy, I lied to you. I didn't go to Hell for jaywalking...well, not entirely. I did jaywalk, and I did get hit by a car because of it. That's how I died."

"What did you do?!" I shouted.

"I burned down my apartment building," Jordan said. "How do you think my parents died?"

"Why did you do that?" I asked.

Jordan shrugged. "It amused me," he said.

"You're a monster!" I screamed.

"You mean that in a good way, right, kitten?" Jordan said as he unsuccessfully tried to light another match.

"Stop calling me that!" I shouted.

Jordan took a few steps closer to me, and when I tried to back away, he only pulled me closer. I was definitely feeling uncomfortable, especially now that I knew the truth, but I didn't want to tell Jordan that. Besides, wasn't this what I wanted? I had said no to Adam because of Jordan. Even if he turned out to be a monster, wasn't this what I deserved? "Come on kitten, you know you like it," Jordan said.

"Jordan, please stop," I said quietly, but he didn't hear me. Jordan continued to lean in closer until I could feel his breath on my face. That was when he pulled me in and kissed me.

His lips had a fiery flavor, but it wasn't at all like what I would have expected. It was just gross. He reeked of cigarette smoke, and the whole thing only reminded me of what he had done.

I finally managed to push him away. "Jordan...you...you can't just do that!" I shouted.

"Oh come on, kitten," he said. "You liked it, didn't you?" He lit another match and he was just about to throw it at the house when all of a sudden, he disappeared. He was back in Hell, where he belonged.

I immediately started walking back towards the mall, still a little bit shaken from what had happened. All of the demons appeared to be gone, and hopefully, Maya was still safe. I would find her, and then we would go home. Both of us needed our rest after the day's craziness.
