The rest of the day dragged on. Lauren was late to class and she didn't have a pass, which would usually mean a detention, but it was the first day so she was let off the hook.
The last bell of the day finally rang and Lauren couldn't wait to leave. But when she reached the door, she remembered Chris and Taylor. She groaned and leaned against the wall, pulling out her phone.
"Mind if I join you?" A voice spoke, making Lauren jump. She looked up and saw Camila standing in front of her.
"Jesus Christ Camila you scared the shit out of me," said Lauren laughing. Camila laughed too, the sound like music to Lauren's ears. Lauren motioned to the spot on the wall next to her, and Camila took it.
"So, are you waiting for a ride?" Questioned Camila.
"Nah I drove here, but I have to wait for my siblings to finish whatever the hell they're doing before we can leave," sighed Lauren.
"I'm waiting for my mom," Camila said frowning.
"Can't you drive?"
"Well, you see, I usually can but I kind of stayed out past curfew one night and my mom took away my driving privileges for a month," Camila said sheepishly. Lauren burst out laughing, making Camila blush.
"I could drive you if you want, we do live on the same street," Lauren said once she had contained herself.
"Really? You would do that? I'd love that," Camila said, hugging Lauren. Lauren was surprised, yet instantly glad Camila hugged her.
Eventually, after Camila texted her mom that she had a ride, Chris and Taylor came barreling down the stairs towards Lauren. Chris opened his mouth to talk, but Lauren put her hand up to stop him.
"I don't want to know," she said and walked out, Camila following. Taylor caught up to Lauren fast though.
"Who's that?" Whispered Taylor. Lauren sighed and stopped walking.
"Chris and Taylor, Camila. Camila, Chris and Taylor," said Lauren and continued to walk forward.
Once they reached Lauren's car, Taylor tried to sit in the passenger seat, but Lauren stopped her.
"Camila will be riding shot gun," said Lauren blankly.
"But-"
"My car, my rules." Taylor sighed and got in the backseat next to Chris reluctantly. Camila slid in to the passenger seat next to Lauren. She started the car, and gladly sped out of the parking lot.
Lauren dropped Chris and Taylor off at home before continuing to drive down the street. The two siblings were having an argument, and Lauren couldn't take it.
"Thank you a million times for the ride," Camila said upon arriving at her house.
"Anytime," Lauren replied. Before getting out of the car, Camila planted a kiss on Lauren's cheek, surprising her.
"Bye," she said, getting out and closing the door, leaving Lauren in a state of shock. She backed out of the driveway and drove down the street to her house.
Lauren sat in her car in shock for a good three minutes. She reached up and delicately touched the spot where Camila's lips had just been. Her whole cheek tingled from the contact of Camila's lips.
"Calm the fuck down Lauren, it was just a friend thing," Lauren told herself as she got out of the car. She walked into the house, still in a daze.
"How was your first day back?" Her mom called from the kitchen.
"Fine," she mumbled back and made her way up the stairs. Upon arriving in her bedroom, she practically threw herself on the bed.
Lauren blasted music into her ears for an hour, but nothing seemed to get the butterflies to go away. She would remember it, and the butterflies would come rushing back.
"Lauren!" Her mom called her from downstairs.
"What?" She called back. Silence.
"What?" She called again. Nothing. Groaning, Lauren sat up, swearing under her breath all the way down the stairs.
"What mother, what do you want?" She said, finding her mother in the living room.
"Oh good, you're here. I want you to go down to the new family at the end of the street and say hello, introduce yourself," explained her mother. Lauren's breath caught in her throat. Camila. Her heart started to race and she felt light headed.
"I'm actually feeling really light headed and dizzy right now, I'm not sure I can," said Lauren.
"You look fine mija," she replied.
Lauren swayed a little bit, and her mother sighed, gesturing her to go back upstairs.
Lauren lay on her bed, her mind swimming.
"Why did I get so nervous? She's your friend," thought Lauren.
'"You're straight. You don't like her that way. You like her as a friend." Lauren repeated this to herself over and over again, trying to convince her brain that Camila was just a friend.
"Just because Camila has that long, dark hair that falls perfectly, those beautiful brown eyes that I could get lost in forever, a smile that brightens my day, a laugh that makes me smile, and the softest, fullest lips I've ever seen does not mean I like her like that," Lauren thought.
She laid there for a moment before sitting up abruptly. There was no denying it now.
"Shit," Lauren said aloud.
"I like her as more than a friend." She was stunned by her own words. She sat there in silence for ten minutes, trying to comprehend what she just said. There was no going back now. She really liked Camila.
Lauren wanted to call Ally or Dinah or Normani to let it all out to them, but she was scared. Lauren was scared that her friends wouldn't except her for who she was.
Lauren ran the thought of liking girls over and over again in her mind until the sunset and her mom called her for dinner.
"Lauren," her mom said knocking.
"Yes," she responded back, her mind in a different world.
"Dinner is ready, do you feel well enough to eat?"
"No, I still feel off," she lied. Her mom sighed on the other sighed of the door, and walked away.
Slowly, 3 hours passed and the Jauregui household was silent. Lauren stayed wide awake, staring at the ceiling.
"I'm not straight," she whispered, and the thought scared her. Lauren wasn't going to sleep that night.
