Lauren sat through the rest of her day, her mind still not wrapped around what had happened earlier. Camila and her were going out on a date. Together. Intentionally. She wanted to tell her friends during lunch, but she stopped herself. Camila kept looking her way, trying to be subtle. But Lauren would catch her, and Camila would look down and bite her lip.
The day seemed like it would never end, but eventually, the final bell rang and Lauren practically sprinted out to her car. She was unfortunately stopped when she crashed directly into Dinah.
"Yo, Lauren, why are you running like a lunatic?" The blonde asked.
"I'm in a hurry Dinah, talk to you later," Lauren responded and quickly ran past Dinah to her car. She was tempted to break the speed limit and run a few red lights multiple times, but she stopped herself. Chris and Taylor were both after school, which meant she had the whole house to herself.
Once she flung herself into the house, she rapidly punched Normani's number into her phone. Normani answered pretty quickly.
"Normaniineedtotalktoyounowitsanemergency," Lauren spit out before Normani could even say anything.
"Calm down woman. What's your emergency?" Normani replied. Lauren took a deep breath.
"So I may or may not have a date with the girl of my dreams tonight and I have no fucking clue what to do with myself." Normani was practically at Lauren's door when she heard the news. She quickly helped Lauren get ready.
"Ok. What are you planning on wearing?" Normani asked upon entering Lauren's bedroom. The green eyed girl shrugged, making Normani groan in frustration.
"Laaaaaauren, come on," she whined.
"Fine. Jeans or something," Lauren said. Normani busied herself in Lauren's closet while Lauren did her own makeup. She made her eyes pop, it looked like the green could pierce through your soul. She finished it off with her signature red lip.
Normani had found Lauren a perfect outfit shortly after. Black ripped jeans and a cream colored long sleeved crop top.
"That's perfect, Mani," Lauren said and took the outfit from her friend. She checked her phone. Camila had told her after lunch that she would be atLauren's house at 7:00. It was only 5:30. She decided to wait to get dressed until later. She went over what Normani called "date etiquette". Normani pretended to be Camila while Lauren was herself. She made a lot of mistakes, but then again, Normani wasn't exactly the best teacher.
Finally, 7:00 rolled around. Lauren's stomach felt like a gymnast and she was sweltering. Lauren and Normani were sitting at her kitchen table. Lauren continued to chug water and check the time over and over again. Normani noticed.
"Laur, why are you so nervous? You and Camila are like inseparable," the dark skinned girl asked.
"I don't know, I guess it's because we've liked each other for so long and this is the first formal thing we are ever doing together," Lauren replied.
"Lauren, you'll be fine. The girl is head over heels for you." Lauren looked at Normani in astonishment, causing Normani to laugh.
"I don't know how you didn't notice it. Just take deep breaths, relax, and be yourself. Just imagine that you're eating lunch at school. You got this," comforted Normani. Lauren felt slightly better and gave Normani a thankful look, until she heard the extremely anticipated knock at the door.
"I think I might barf," commented Lauren as she walked to the door. Deep breath in, deep breath out. She eventually opened the door. She instantly relaxed upon seeing Camila's face.
The brunette wore black leggings and a casual grey shirt. On her feet were short boots with a heel, making her taller. She had on a coat over it, which reminded Lauren to grab her leather jacket from the table right by the door.
"You look...wow," Lauren managed to get out. Camila blushed.
"So do you." Lauren smiled genuinely at her date. This was really happening. She stepped out of the house into the cool night air, instantly happy she brought her jacket. The two started their journey to the mystery destination.
"So, do I get to know where we're going or is it a surprise?" The green eyes girl asked. Camila giggled.
"It's where we used to go for lunch on weekends when we were first friends." Lauren thought back to those days. She had pushed her feelings away back then, afraid of confronting them, of being rejected. She and Camila would walk from Lauren's house to the small café every Saturday. They were just friends. Nothing more. It was hard to believe that now they were going on their first date.
"I love that place," Lauren replied. Camila suddenly grabbed her hand, sending Lauren's heart rate through the roof. Camila could sense her tenseness.
"Lauren, why are you so nervous?" Camila asked innocently. Lauren gulped.
"Nervous? No, I'm not nervous," the taller girl replied calmly, trying to play it off.
"Your hand says otherwise," replied Camila with a grin. It was true. Her hand was sweating and shaking. Lauren sighed and admitted defeat.
"It's just that I've known you for so long and we've made out like a hundred times, but we've never had a formal date before. You still make me have butterflies to this day," explained Lauren, glad to get it off her chest.
"Aww that's sweet. But there's no need to be nervous. I know practically everything about you, and you know everything about me. We were practically dating since we first met." Lauren smiled at Camila's words and pulled her closer. She was finally relaxing again.
They spent the time that they walked to the café talking about school, girls they both hated, teachers they thought were annoying, telling funny stories, and reminiscing in their past.
The walk wasn't long, about fifteen minutes, but Lauren made sure to walk extra slow so that she could just walk and talk with Camila. She wanted to remember the moment for as long as she lived.
