It was the end of April, and Emmy was playing in the last few seconds of her senior night soccer game. Emmy passed the ball up the field to Kara. Kara slammed the ball into the upper right corner, earning Redwood the winning goal. Emmy let out a scream of joy as she sprinted up the field to Kara. The team all gathered in a group hug shouting and yelling with joy, they were conference champions again four years in a row.
Their coach came over grinning, and congratulating them before directing them over to the other team. Emmy and her team jogged past slapping hands with the other team before walking off the field. The coach gave all of his senior players flowers, and a speech about how much he'd miss them. The team huddled together one last time, before going their separate ways.
Emmy jogged over to her mother and sister.
"Hey," she said smiling at them.
"You did great out there Emmy," her mother told her while Honor nodded in agreement.
"Thanks mom," Emmy said grinning before she glanced around the field and spotted a familiar head of blonde hair a few feet away.
"So do you want to get something to eat?" Her mother asked her.
Emmy bit her lip in indecision as she glanced at the blonde headed boy a few feet away, "Umm no thanks, I'm going to go hangout with some friends."
"Ok, well be safe and don't stay out too late," her mom said before she and Honor turned and left the field.
Emmy grabbed her soccer bag from by the bleachers and slipped it on. Before she could make her way over to him Kara stepped in front of her. She threw her arms around Emmy in a hug.
"We were awesome!" Kara squealed with excitement.
"Yeah I know," Emmy said glancing around Kara.
"A bunch of us are going out, to celebrate our win do you want to come with us?" Kara asked her friend.
"Um no, I have to do something," Emmy said glancing around Kara again.
Kara turned around to see what Emmy was looking at and her eyes widened in understanding, "Oh, well good luck."
"Thanks," Emmy replied as Kara turned and walked away.
She took a sip of water, before she causally headed over to him. Emmy cautiously stood in front of him, he had his hands stuffed into the pockets of his khaki shorts.
"Hi," Emmy said as she looked up into his green eyes.
"Hey," Ian said as he looked up from the ground into her eyes.
"What are you doing here?" Emmy questioned him with an eyebrow arched.
Ian shrugged, "I thought that maybe we could talk."
"About what?" Emmy asked him looking confused.
"About us," he replied offering up nothing else.
"Umm, ok I guess," Emmy told him.
"Alright, so do you want to come to my house?"
"Yeah sure," she said shrugging.
"Do you need a ride?" Ian asked her as he glanced up from the ground.
"Yeah, I didn't drive here."
"Ok, well I'm parked over there," Ian said as he nodded his head in the direction of the parking lot.
"Ok," Emmy said turning and beginning to lead the way.
They walked to his car in silence, and made the journey to his house in uncomfortable silence. Ian pulled into his driveway and Emmy noticed the house was dark and the drive was empty of cars.
