Fit Girls...?

Can we please address this? Why is literally every female character in LITERALLY every single Wattpad story like fit as crap?

I'm fairly certain that about only 25-30% of high school girls are actually fit ('I'm an athlete' fit not 'I snort cocaine to stay skinny' fit). I mean it's fairly common to be skinny or thin, but not this toned, ideal body that most characters on here have.

I know for a fact that it takes more than a few 'gym sessions' to get a six pack and a toned body. It's also much harder for women to gain actual muscle as our bodies are not designed to have so much of it. Most females have leaner muscle (lighter and less noticeable), giving them a more toned and athletic figure.

It's not uncommon for women to have abs, but it's mostly a four or less pack or the very toned V line. Unless you are a bodybuilder, women don't typically have this much of a bulked out body.

Another part that is very annoying is most of the time the character never works out and is 'naturally' this built. No normal human being is 'naturally' ripped and muscular. Sure you can be thin if that's the way you are built but literally no one can just sit on the couch and automatically have abs and a nice af body.

Example: My very toned and ripped body. I work out about two times a week, nothing too hard, but have a banging bod.
---- Uh no, that's not how it works sweetheart.

The other infuriating part of this 'perfect Wattpad body type' is that we aren't playing true to ourselves. Like I'm pretty sure a low percentage of everyone on here has that awesome body; and that's completely okay. It's completely FINE to have rolls every time you sit down or to have stretch marks, it doesn't make you any less beautiful or any less lovable.

If the only fictional characters that exist are skinny girls who never eat or never work out, we will never have healthy role models to look up to. This is one of the many issues with our society today; seeing as it is acceptable to be size 0 and it is shamed upon when someone still has some baby fat (that will eventually go away).

This bias to the 'perfect body' is harming our women (emotionally and even physically.) If there are celebrities who can change how we think about ourselves--making us think about the common baby fat being a whole load we need to get rid of and such--then we are prone to be also influenced by characters in books, even if they might be fictional.

Just because you want your character to be this perfect version of yourself, which in most cases is, it doesn't mean that you need this outrageously fit and body-builder-worthy character. Love yourself for who you are and let your characters reflect that thinking.
