The Second Task

"Evelyn!" I hear my name being shouted from across the common room, and I turn to see Harry running in through the portrait hole.

"Everything okay Harry?" I ask when he's next to me.

"Yes, I–I figured out the egg! It had to be opened under water, so we think the next task has to do with the Black Lake somehow.."

"What all did you figure out?"

"Well...it's a riddle, Hermione figured out some parts of it." He whispers, knowing he's not aloud to have help with this.

"What's the riddle? Maybe I can help?" I say with a smile as he sits beside me on the couch.

"Come seek us where our voices sound. We cannot sing above the ground. An hour long you'll have to look, to recover what we took."

"So you'll be playing hide and seek with the merpeople in the lake?" I ask with a small laugh making Harry laugh as well.

"Yeah that's what we figured, but I don't know what they'd take? I don't have a lot that merpeople would want."

"Don't ever underestimate the value of something Harry. There are somethings worth more than we can ever imagine, and with merpeople they only take things that are most valuable to people."

"Well other than my Firebolt, I don't have much Evelyn."

"Well I guess we'll see. What we need to figure out is how to let you breath under water for a full hour..." He nods in agreement.

"Yeah that's the big problem."

"Well there's always potions..well it's too close to the task I wouldn't be able to brew any for you..I wouldn't have time to teach you a charm either.. Umm there's always Gillyweed?"

"Gillyweed?"

"It's a plant, that if you eat it it'll give you fish like qualities. Gills, fins, etcetera. But I have no idea if there's any available, or even near by.."

"Well I can always take the cloak and look in Snape's storage." He whispers making me shake my head and chuckle slightly.

"He's gonna catch you one of these days Harry, and it won't be pretty."

"If he can ever see me doing it." He says with a mischievous smirk, making me laugh.

"Miss Black?" I hear from the portrait looking over to see Professor McGonagall, looking at me.

"Yes Professor?" I say worried she might have bad news on either Dad or Remus, I've never been sought out by a professor before..

"Come with me dear."

"Is everything okay?" I blurt out as I make my way toward her.

"Yes, yes. Sorry, I didn't mean to worry you dear."

"That's okay. Where are we going?" I ask as we head down the stairs away from the tower.

"My office, and no, no one is in trouble. We just need your assistance with the next task."

The next task? How am I supposed to "help", if I'm not supposed to even know about it..? She leads me up to her office, and inside is three more people, two of which I recognize as Hermione herself, and Cho Chang.

"Now, I know you all are curious as to why you're here. For the second task, our champions need to recover their most valuable possessions, which are yourselves."

She gestures to the four chairs behind each of us, and we sit as instructed. Waiting for what else we need to do for this.

"The only thing is, this task is to take place in the Black Lake; therefore Professor Flitwick and myself are going to place a charm on each of you to ensure your safety."
