"Vernon-shi, look at the cloud!" You giggle, pointing at a cloud in the shape of a rabbit.
You lay with your head on his lap, his dorky glasses sitting on the bridge of his nose as he looked down at you. Sliding them back into place with his finger he grins, wondering how he had ever met someone as kind and innocent as you.
The soft edges of the rabbit fading and dispersing the longer you looked at it, the white turning grey as a storm rattled above. But little did the pair know, the storm foreshadowed their future together.
[Six years later]
"One iced Americano please."
Without looking up, you tap the details into the cash register before retrieving the crisp note from the boys hand and tucking it in with the rest of the money before taking out his change. You look up with a smile, your hand extended with the coins in her palm, but your smile soon faded as her eyes snagged on the blonde haired, brown eyed boy before her.
"Hey Y/N, long time no see." He laughed.
"Vernon..."
You stand there in shock, your eyes wide and your mouth agape as your childhood friend stood before you, no longer smaller than you with a geeky look. A rather good looking man replacing his form.
"Y/N! Keep it moving!" Yelled the boss and you were instantly brought back to reality.
You pile his change in his palm and smile. "Your order will be with you shortly."
And for the first time since being here, his smile faded, a small, stiff nod before he walked away, seating himself at a window.
For the rest of your working day, he sat there, wringing his hands and ordering small desserts or coffee so that he didn't out stay his welcome. You watched his every move, each small habit reminding you of your childhood with him.
He had one day disappeared, not meeting at your spot; he hadnt given any warning, not even a hint of where he was going or if he was okay. It was only a few years later when he went through a predebut stage with his new group SEVENTEEN you never even heard about from him.
At one point, you went to one of his predebut concerts and even though you were hurt, you couldn't help but dance along. Until he saw you in the crowd that is... And you ran.
"Thanks for doing overtime again." Grumbled your manager as you tugged your jacket on.
"No problem."
"You can have tomorrow off if you like, see you later!"
You wave as you leave through the front door, a chilling gust of wind forcing you to shiver but it wasn't long before you recovered. You started down the road, the soft snow crunching under your own weight, but not only yours. Someone else was coming, at a speedy pace.
"Y/N!" He breathed. "Wait, please!"
"What do you want Vernon?"
But before you could carry on walking, his warm fingers wrapped around your wrist, tugging you in the other direction; you trot across the road behind him, following in his footsteps as he lead you somewhere.
"Where are you taking me?" You demanded, struggling to pull away for he was too strong for you either way.
"Just shut up and you'll see." Vernon retorted, not looking at you but keeping his eyes on the path ahead of him.
"This could be considered kidnapping you know!" You earned a chuckle from Vernon, a melting sound you hadn't heard come from him in years.
A small grass clearing came in to view up ahead of you as he continued to drag you down a narrow path until the clearing was now in full sight. The sun breaking out ahead causing you to cover your eyes with your free hand.
The absense of Vernon's hand on your wrist left you feeling cold until you saw him sitting in a patch of grass in the middle of the clearing, motioning you over with flick of his hand.
Recluctantly, you waltzed over to him, the memory of your surrounding slowing sinking into you. Painfully beautiful memories stabbing at your heart and weighing you down.
Everything materialized right in front of you as the memory of this place sat right in front of you. Just like you were here living in the same moment six years ago. The same place, same memories, same Vernon.
"Why would you take me here?" you spat out, suddenly flooded with anger. "You disappear from me for six long years without any warning! I was alone. Do you have any idea how hard it was? I was lost without you! I-"
Vernon finally decided on shutting you up and stopping you ranting with a long thoughtful kiss. He seal your lips, capturing the words that were spilling from your angry lips. Hesitating, you managed to kiss back. Closing your eyes and relaxing into the kiss, Vernon joined his hand with yours and you could feel him smile against you, pulling away.
"That's all I had to hear." He whispered looking at your confusion. "I wanted to make it up to you. To tell you that I'm here to make up those six years. Because guess what?"
"What?" You almost inaudibly whispered, afraid of the words being exchanged at the moment.
"You don't have to worry about me leaving your side. Ever again." Vernon whispered the last part making your heart flutter.
All you could do was nod as Vernon sat with his legs out in the grass, pulling your head into his lap just as it was six years ago.
You giggled and talked and stared at the sky for hours on end, talking about the things you weren't able to talk about with each other in those missing years. The both of you lost track of time.
Pointing up at the clouds in the sky you shouted, "Vernon-shi, look at that cloud!" He laughed, continuing to play with your hair as you stared at the butterfly shaped clouds.
And thus all your worries washed away. Trainee days were over. Your childhood was over. And although sad, you were finally able to live life the way you wanted.
With Vernon undoubtedly by your side.
