Chapter 2: Sparkle's Test

Sparkle Shimmer looked in the mirror. Today was the day. The Grand Galloping Galla! She had been waiting for this day for a long time. It was the day when her mentors, Celestia and Luna, would give her the final quest in her studies to become a princess.

Sparkle was raised by a unicorn mother and pegasus father in Canterlot as an Alicorn. She grew up like any normal filly would, but she always had to hide her wings. Eveypony knew her as a normal unicorn.

Until one day, she discovered her talent. Sparkle could sing, but when she did, she could make anypony listening feel whatever she wanted them to feel. She finally got tired of hiding her wings, and convinced her parents to feel sorry for her. So, they let her out into the square.

Soon Celestia and Luna heard of this young Alicorn music prodigy, and decided that she become their student. Now, several years later, Sparkle was grown and ready to graduate. All she had to do pass her final quest.

Sparkle walked into the ball room in her long pink dress. She had a tall, thin, light pink body and her wings faded into dark pink at the tips, and crystal blue eyes. Her mane was several different shades of pink with golden streaks which she wore in a curled and braided up-do for the Galla, and her cutie mark was a heart with sparkles around it. With her dress, she wore golden shoes, and her gold necklace with a blue heart gemstone.

"Now presenting: Sparkle Shimmer! Student of Princess Celestia and Princess Luna!" The announcer called to the crowd. There was a lot of cheering.

"Dear student." Celestia began. "You have worked and studied so very hard."

"It's time for you to become a Princess!" Luna said.

Although Luna and Sparkle looked and acted the same age, Luna was actually thousands of years older.

"But first, you must complete one last task." Celestia said. "You must travel to the darkest part of Equestria and bring goodness to it."

"Many dark and dangerous things lurk there, where it is exactly, only you will know. But be careful, for one mistake could cost you your life to the grasp of a monster." Luna warned.

Sparkle nodded. She was ready. She knew she had to pass this test to become a Princess, and she would do everything she could to do just that.

"I accept, Princesses." Sparkle said.

"Good. Be careful Sparkle Shimmer, and be prepared. You leave at dawn." Luna and Celestia said in unison.
