I couldn't sleep. The power of the amulet kept me from sleeping, it wanted me to stay awake. I dared not rest my eyes, it's evil promised me that something bad would happen if I did. I stared at Shimmers sleeping form, next to her wolf pup and smiled.
I stayed awake so long, that I wasn't actually tired anymore, the dawns light shone through the Vales trees, and I started picking up my part of the camp. I must of done something too loud, because Shimmer opened her eyes and yawned. I let out a sigh, as she started to rub her eyes. "What's wrong Samuel?" I kept packing my bags, and when I was done, I pointed my right hoof at the shining sun. "Oh."
We packed up our camp, doused the fire, tended to the dog, and went on our way out of this godforsaken place.
We kept walking for a few hours, and when the edge of the forest was in our reach, the amulet glowed darker, and stopped me dead in my tracks, and started dragging me backwards. "Samuel!!" I looked up, and Shimmer wrapped her pack around a tree, attached herself, and leaped to grab my hooves.
We were dragged a ways, until the straps tugged her, keeping us from being pulled back into the value. The powers ultimately ceased, allowing me to take a breath, and give Shimmer a break. "You ok Samuel?" She was panting pretty hard. "I'm more concerned about you Shimmer." She laughed a bit, and motioned her head for us to keep going.
We kept on our journey, only stopping to take a break for water and food.
When we went out of the forest fully, I stopped. Shimmer noticed this and stopped as well. "Samuel... What's wrong?" I sighed and looked at her with sad eyes. "I can't return with you Shim-" "Uh, I don't think so!" I was startled at what she said, and she continued. "I am not gonna go without you, especially since we just met! Now come on!" She started walking again, and I stayed stunned for a few seconds, but let out a small laugh. Then started walking again.
'This will be interesting...'
