Jay arrived at Med and waited three hours until she arrived. When she arrived, they took her to a room and he waited another hour until he could go and see her.
When he walked into her room, his heart broke. "Erin?" He sat down next to the bed. "Erin, we were suppose to be partners for life. Definitely in law enforcement but also maybe in marriage. Partners in crime. It could've been. It still can be. Come back to me. I want you, you know that. Just what were you doing up there in Milwaukee? Why were you there? Was it because of me? Did I cause this? Am I at fault?" Jay teared up.
"No. You aren't." His brother came in. "Erin has 6 broken ribs, a broken arm, and a bullet wound. The bullet went into her abdomen, and luckily, over at Memorial in Milwaukee, they were able to remove it and patch her up. She also needed a couple stitches on her jaw line. It's unfortunate what happened to her, but it wasn't your fault. And also, you're dating?"
"Is she gonna be okay?" Jay cried. "And we aren't dating. I just hope that one day we do."
"She's gonna be fine. We don't know when she'll wake up, but she should recover with the proper care, which we will give her." Will comforted.
"Thanks, bro." Jay wiped his tears just seconds before the rest of the Intelligence unit walked in.
Hank walked in and just one glance got him upset. "What happened?" He sniffled.
Will explained.
"Atwater, find out why she was up there. Search her phone, search everything." Hank Voight ordered.
"No!" Jay screamed. They all looked at him like he was crazy. "I mean, let me. I'm her partner." Jay saved.
"Okay, fine." Voight agreed.
Jay took her phone and searched the messages first. She had just received one last night 3 minutes after they had gotten off work. Take a road trip to Milwaukee or news of this gets out. The message was attached to a photo of Jay and Erin in bed.
Jay walked into the hospital room to find Erin awake and talking.
"I was in Milwaukee because I was going to go visit and old friend. Sorry I didn't tell any of you. When I got there, I hit a pole at 53 mph and was knocked out. When I woke, I was still in the car but a man had stopped to help. He pulled me out, shouted at me, pulled a gun, and shot me. I was already on the ground so I had nowhere to fall but I managed to get the gun and shot him three or four times. Then I blacked out, woke up here." Erin stated. Jay knew the reason she was there was a lie.
After a bit, everyone left but Jay, so finally they could talk. "You took a bullet for me." Jay said.
"No. Technically, for us. But not literally." She giggled, reached for her ribs, and winced because of the pain.
"I know, but you didn't have to. I would've done something. I would've come clean to Voight, offered to get moved. I will do anything for you, Erin." Jay kissed her.
"I know, that's why I did it. I can't let you lose your job for me. I need to see you everyday, it makes my life better. I need to hear your voice in the morning, and I need you there when we leave work. I was a little nervous about our one night stand. I was afraid it'd ruin our relationship but it only made it stronger, I didn't want anything to ruin it. And I want us to date." She confessed.
"I want that, too. But we have to keep it on the down low." Jay smiled, "I need you, too, by the way."
