"Erin, talk to me!" Jay shouted. He forced his seat belt loose and opened his car door. He stepped out, looked out at the frozen crowd of people who were too in shock and couldn't help him get Erin out.
Rushing over to where his car hit hers, he couldn't budge the door, it was too bent up and his car didn't exactly bounce off of hers. His passenger side was a foot from her.
"Erin, hey, can you open your eyes for me?" Jay tried to open her door again. He moved to the hood of her car. Fortunately, the windshield was no longer there so he could just slide in. He sat in the seat next to her and tried to get the seat belt off of her. He pulled and tugged, "Wow, Erin. You have to pick the safest car. This seat belt just isn't budging." Although he wasn't talking to no one, she wasn't conscious.
He jumped out of the car and searched around for anything to help, scissors, a knife, anything. Unfortunately, what he found was worse. He saw a flame shoot up from his car and some gas was leaking from his. "Who's gonna help!?" He shouted at the motionless people. Where is that dang fire department, Jay thought.
Jay ran back to Erin and tried to pull off her seat belt at which he failed. He looked at her, she looked like she sleeping, she looked so helpless. Jay kissed her and pressed his forehead against hers. "Erin, come back to me, I didn't mean to leave me alone on this earth, I just needed a bit of space, please, come back to me. I'm sorry," and as he said that, a man came running up to the car and offered a pocket knife.
Jay grabbed it and started to cut her seat belt when she finally opened her eyes. She wrapped her arms around his neck and Jay and the man that offered the pocket knife lifted her out of the car and carried her out onto the road so the ambulance could see. They heard the sirens and Jay stood up and started waving his arms.
He bent back down. "Erin, are you okay? Can you walk?"
"Yeah, I feel fine, I guess I just passed out. I don't know. But I think I can walk, I haven't tried yet." She jokingly said. She stood up and grabbed onto Jay. "It hurts to walk, my ankle hurts, but I can limp..." She laughed.
"Erin, this isn't funny..." Jay stated.
"I guess it's a way of coping." Erin confided.
"Yeah." Jay replied. The paramedics hopped out of the ambulance and ran the gurney over. Erin laid down and was rolled into the ambulance. Jay jumped in behind them.
"Wait, why are you coming with me?" Erin questioned.
"I don't know. I guess when you almost lose the one thing you love, it makes you love them a lot more." Jay stated.
"You... love me?" Erin asked.
"I love you." Jay said, "I always have. It never stopped. I may have been mad but sometimes when I'm mad, I say stuff I don't mean. I'm sorry. So do you love me?"
"I like you."
"But not love..." Jay frowned.
"No, that's not it. I'm saving it for someone. I'm saving the words 'I love you' for the one person that I marry. And I hope that's you." Erin smiled.
"Me too," Jay replied and kissed her.
"I like you." Erin said.
"I like you, too." Jay responded.
