The car pulled up to Starbucks. Samantha and I jumped out of the car and went inside. When the door opened, heads turned and the murmuring started. Ignoring it, I walked up to the counter and began giving the barista the long order. Her hands were shaking and her eyes were bright, so naturally I gave her a wink and a smirk, to which Sam rolled her eyes at.

As the drinks were being made I turned to her. I had one burning question to ask. Well, I actually had two. "Can I ask you something?" She turned to me. Though she did look different from last night, she still looked as beautiful as ever. In fact, I think I liked her this way. Natural. Her eyebrows perked up, giving me the go ahead. "How did you get this job anyway? And how did you not know you were going to be our assistant?"

Sam took a deep breath and drummed her fingers on the counter. Conversation around us had dispersed but there were still whispers. She glanced around her and then spoke. "Basically, I was working at the Sony studio in Los Angeles."

"Columbia's parent company," I added.

She nodded and placed one of the ready drinks into a drink carrier. "There was word that an assistant had been fired. My name started floating around the office and soon enough they were shipping me off here to New York. I wasn't given any details, just that I was some artist's new assistant. To be honest, I was kind of hoping it was Beyoncé."

I chuckled. "Who wouldn't want to assist Queen B herself?"

Sam grabbed the rest of the drinks, both of us holding a drink carrier as we exited. Word had already spread about our whereabouts and fans and paparazzi were standing outside. Sam shoved her sunglasses on and braced herself against the cold as we left the store. It really bothered me that she hadn't thought to bring a jacket with her.

We quickly got into the car and made our way to the rehearsal. Sam took a sip of her latte and relaxed into the car seat. "Are you excited for tour?" she asked me.

"For the most part. I never like being away from home for too long, but that's just the way it is with this life. What about you? You get to travel the world with us," I pointed out.

A small smile tugged at her full lips and she looked up at me. "Yeah. I'm excited. I didn't know how to feel about leaving LA because that's where my life's been for the past few years, but I'm ready to do different things. See different things," she explained.

"Where did you live before Los Angeles?"

Her smile dropped and she cleared her throat, taking another sip of her latte. I looked at her intently. She glanced out the window then back at me. "Indiana," she answered.

Obviously it was a touchy subject and I wasn't going to be one to pry. I dropped the conversation and we continued the ride in silence.
