I regret to announce that Harry and I have mutually decided to split.

My index finger hovered over the 'delete' key. It wasn't so much mutual as it was one sided, but mutual sounded better. It sounded civil. Not like the fucked up mess that it really was.

Sometimes people just aren't meant to be together, no matter how hard they try. My time with Harry is something I will never forget. He's my best friend, and I truly believe that I will love him forever. I will always be there for him when he needs me, and I know that he will do the same. I want to thank you all for being so kind to me and supporting us through our short, but loving, relationship. – Sam

I posted the announcement to my Instagram and Twitter and sat back in the computer chair, exhaling. Retweets, likes, and favorites began to flood in. Some comments were sincere, telling me that they hoped I was okay and that I'd find happiness soon. Some were upset that we were broken up. Others were just plain disgusting.

Posting the announcement made it even more real and I felt my chest ache. I had to remind myself that everything I was doing right now was for the best, but I was mostly doing it all for Harry. One day he would see, when he's married to a beautiful girl and has gorgeous children, he'll see that I was never the one for him.

Thinking about Harry being married and having kids with someone that isn't me nearly sent me into tears, so I cleared the image from my mind and stood from the desk in my room and started for downstairs. As I entered the living room, I saw Nikki bent over with her hands resting on her knees as she exhaled deeply.

"Nikki? Are you okay?" I asked, rushing over to her side. I gripped her elbow and guided her over the couch, helping her sit down.

She closed her eyes and inhaled for a few seconds and then exhaled slowly. She looked over at me from the corner of her eye. "I'm pretty sure I'm in labor," she announced.

My eyes widened and my heart fluttered with nervousness and excitement. "Are you sure?"

Nikki nodded and then winced, bringing a hand to her protruding belly. "Look... over... by the... table," she said, trying to speak through the pain that was ripping through her body. A pain that I remembered all too well.

I peered over by the dining room table and sure enough there was a huge puddle of water on the floor from where her water had broken. I smiled and brought my attention back to her. "You're going to have a baby!"

She gave me a painful smile. "Can you call Matt? We'll meet him at the hospital."

I pulled out my phone as she began to stand, waddling over the coat closet where'd she kept the hospital bag for the past week in preparation for this moment. I propped the phone up between my shoulder and ear as I rushed towards her, taking the bag from her grasp.
