When Samantha James becomes One Direction's personal assistant, she gets more than she bargains for. Falling for Harry Styles is one of them. But things aren't always easy or beautiful, because Sam has secrets--dark ones, and she'll do anything to h...

The tour was over and the break was coming up soon. We had just a few more TV appearances left. In just a short time, we'd all be on our own and free to do as we pleased until we decided to come back. While the break was well deserved (we'd been going for five years straight) it was a scary thought. What we were going to do every day?
I'd had plans for the break, especially when Sam came into the picture. I pictured us on beaches around the world, me showing her Europe, her watching me in the studio. Now all of that was just a distant memory stirred up by my imagination. There was no Sam now, so there were no beaches, no Europe, no studio. Well, there was still the studio, but she just wouldn't be there.
I was looking through my journal, glancing over songs and unfinished lyrics, when Jeff called me. I answered while still glancing at the page I was on. "'Lo?"
"You fucking got it," he said.
My brows furrowed and I shut my journal. "What?"
Jeff chuckled on the other end. "You got the part. Christopher fucking Nolan wants you!"
I stood, running a hand through my hair. I never expected to get the part. I thought I'd bombed the audition because I was so out of it and stressed, but apparently I didn't. "Are you serious?" I asked.
"I'm not kidding. I'll need you back here by the New Year to sign some stuff and then the producers will be in touch for everything else," Jeff explained.
Nothing could help the smile that was forming on my face. "This... this is insane," I admitted.
"Look, I'm going to give you some time to process this and call your mum and all that shit. You accept the part though, right?" Jeff asked.
"Of course," I replied without missing a beat. "Tell them I'm on board."
I could hear the smile in Jeff's voice. "Will do. Congrats, man."
"Thanks," I replied and ended the call, tossing my phone on the leather couch. I laced my fingers together and cupped the back of my head with my hands, taking deep breaths and chuckling to myself. This was actually happening.
Immediately, I wanted to call Sam. Once he told me that news, I wanted to hang up and call her, text her, or something. I wanted her to know. She knew I'd been working on my acting, but I was going to surprise her if I'd gotten the part.
I sat back down on the couch and palmed my phone, tossing it between my hands. We released 'Perfect' about a month ago and still no word from her. I'd changed my number, something I did every so often, but she still hadn't reached out to any of the boys or Vivian. It was clear that she was done and over it, or at least trying to be, but I was still stuck here thinking about her.
Dialing the familiar number, I smiled when I heard the voice on the other end. "Hi, darling," my mum answered.
"Hi," I said quietly. "I've got some really good news."
"Really?" she asked. "Tell me all about it."
"I got the part in the Christopher Nolan film."
Mum squealed on the other end. "Harry! Honey, that's so great! I'm so, so proud of you!"
I laughed at her reaction. "Thank you."
"This is so wonderful. The next time I see you, we're celebrating," she insisted.
"Okay, mum," I chuckled. I glanced at the clock on the wall and stood once again, remembering that the boys and I had planned to have lunch together today. "I'm sorry, but I have to go. I love you."
"I love you, too, darling. Congratulations."
We ended the call and I left the room, taking my time to meet the boys. I was tired, so tired, but there was this new feeling of excitement and opportunity bubbling up inside me from my call with Jeff. For the first time in a long time, I was happy about something.
When I arrived at the house Louis was renting, everyone immediately noticed the change in my body language and in my face. "What are you so happy about?" Liam asked as I took a seat at the table.
I tried to bite my lip to keep my smile from spreading any further. "Jeff called and I got the part in that movie I auditioned for."
The boys all erupted in cheers and smiles, leaning over the table from their spots to pat me on the back. "That's great!" Niall said, ruffling my long locks.
I chuckled and put my hair back in place. "Thanks, guys."
"It's good to see that you're feeling better," Louis commented, passing around the food.
"You had us worried," Liam admitted.
I shrugged and grabbed a bowl that Niall handed me. "You all know how going through a break up is."
Louis and Liam raised their eyebrows and nodded simultaneously. Niall began shoving food into his mouth, completely avoiding the topic of relationships all together.
"Well, we're glad you're getting back to yourself. Plus, you've got great stuff coming up next year," Louis added.
I sat back in my chair and eyed him. "You're going to be a dad. How the fuck did that happen?" I chuckled.
Louis laughed with a mouth full of food while Liam answered for him. "I think we all know how it happened."
"Are you warming up to the idea more?" Niall asked, finally slowing down on the food.
Louis smiled, pushing his food around with his fork. "Yeah. I think so. It's going to be really weird and different, but we're getting along pretty well."
"That's good," I commented, taking another bite.
"I wonder how long we're all going to sleep once the break officially starts," Liam chimed in.
Niall spoke up. "Days. I plan on sleeping for days."
"I might as well sleep while I can," Louis added.
I relaxed back in my seat, taking in the conversation all around me. I itched to reach into my pocket and tell Sam about the news, but I needed to stop. The boys were right. I had so many things to look forward to over the next year that I didn't need to worry about anything else
