"Dad? I'm home! Klark's with me!" Lexa started shouting well arriving through the threshold. Lexa placed her purse down at the island in the kitchen and both girls smirked remembering the intimate moment they shared on the stool.
"In the study, Raccoon!" Richard yelled followed with a rough cough.
"Do you want me to stay here?" Clarke asked her best friend.
"Come with me. I don't think I can do this without you." Lexa pulled out her hand and Clarke reached for it in amazement.
The girls walked slowly through the hall scared and didn't know how they would react seeing Lexa's father.

They were surprised to see him look so happy to see them like nothing was wrong at all but Lexa's face said that she was scared. She noticed her father was much skinnier and he wasn't bald because he refused to try chemo for a 3rd time. He wanted to live the rest of his days with less pain as casual and as normal as possible. No doctors, no ridiculous meds, and no more faces showing pity for a man who was once seen as the toughest man in the city.
Lexa tightened her hands. Clarke forgot they were holding hands until it felt like her knuckles were being crushed in Lexa's grasp.
"Lexa it's okay" Clarke muttered so only Lexa could hear her.
"Daddy?" Lexa said with a strained voice trying to push the word out of her throat.
"Oh Lexie. Come here baby. Don't even think about it. You know what it does to me" Richards eyes were watery and sprung his arms open. Lexa ran after swiftly letting go of Clarke's hand and ran into her dads arms where she knew she'd also be safe if not with Clarke.
"Oh Raccoon. What's wrong?" Richard asked well rubbing circles into her daughters back to calm her down.
"I'm gonna miss you" is all the girl said.
"I'll always be with you" Richard said well pressing a soft kiss into the girls hair. And repeating it once more so only his daughter can hear.
"You're all I have left. You're my family" Lexa was now sobbing.
"Somehow I doubt that" he stared up at a blonde he knew very well at the doorway whom was also in tears.
"How's my favorite Griffin doing?Protecting my daughter as always huh?" Richard laughed still holding tightly at the girl on his lap and sobbing into his shirt.
"Something like that, Woods. Of course she's stubborn like her father and refuses to let anyone help even when it comes to picking up a book that she drops" they both laughed knowing Lexa was definitely her fathers daughter.
"Is that right little Raccoon?" He asked his daughter and still unable to get a stable word.
"I'm going to go see my mom. I'll let you both talk" Clarke started step back.
"Before you leave. Clarke I need to talk to you sometime before you both head off back to school" Richard stated rather than asked.
__________
After more silence and tears Lexa started to talk:
"I've hated you so much the past few months. I wanted to call you yelling. You think you're protecting me from your dying state, but it's inevitable! YOU'RE DYING, DAD and there's nothing I can do! I feel so weak and hopeless. I wasn't there for mom. I didn't even know her! At least I can be here for one of my parents before they pass. Instead you're blocking me out. You're depriving me from mourning and feeling! You protected me from the monsters under my bed but I'm an adult now. I have a right to be here! You're my dad!" Lexa's voice cracked at the last statement.
"Okay." Richard said and loosened his arms from his daughter.
"I won't act like this isn't happening anymore. You can visit whenever you want. Call, text, FaceTime? Whenever you wish. I'm not accustomed to technology but Kennedy can help with that. I'm sorry, Lexa. You're an adult now but you will always be my baby." Richard kissed his daughter on the forehead and sat there for another hour before he asked for Chinese takeout from his favorite restaurant Lexa lit up and agreed and picked up her phone knowing the number by memory.
