Supply Run

It's been a week since the group arrived in Alexandria, and it has been pretty good.

Dad and the other men went out and, luckily enough, got a ton of food and other supplies. Also, since they weren't busy, they found an actual library and brought everyone back piles of novels and comic books, which, we've all needed, since there wasn't a lot to read.

I haven't had any guarding shifts, and neither has Ron or Enid. We've all been taking care of Sarah, though.

Sarah said she felt like she was going to have her baby, but it turned out it was just false contractions. We've been trying to keep her calm so it wouldn't start anything, but so far we've been good. But there's one thing I don't like.

Ron hasn't spoke to me since the morning walk, and I just assume he doesn't like me. But it's okay.

Dad greeted me as he walked through the kitchen door.

"Good morning Carl, how did you sleep?" He said.

"I slept fine," I said.

"Good. Listen, I asked Ron if he wanted to go on a supply run with me, so we won't have to do it for a few weeks. He said yes. Do you want to go too?" he asked.

Of course I did. Ron was hot.

But, I was straight.

"Yeah. Might find something useful. Is Daryl going with you?" I said.

"Yes, but Jessie, Ron's mom, wants to come too, so it might be a little crowded," he said. He was blushing a little with some dreamy eyes.

"Really. Huh, I don't know her that well, so I can't say I'm surprised. When are we leaving?" I said, trying to hide my excitement that I'll be with Ron.

"'Bout an hour. Get the guns to that truck, maybe an extra change of clothes or something, if you have any. We'll be out for two days maybe." I went outside to put the guns in the truck, then Dad, Ron, Jessie, and Daryl walked out from the houses and hopped in the truck, Dad and Daryl in the front, me on the far left, Ron in the middle, and Jessie on the far right.

"Alright, they've already searched out any place within sixty miles from here, so I'll be awhile. What exactly are we gettin'?" Dad said to Daryl.

"Uh, we're pretty good on food, but Denise said we need to be gettin' more medical things, for Sarah, and more baby stuff, formula or somethin'," he replied.

We started driving and it was pretty quiet.

After maybe thirty minutes of driving Dad started talking.

"So, Carl, we've been so busy that I keep forgettin' to ask. Do you like Alexandria?" he said, not even looking back.

"It's fine. What do you know about the other people? I haven't really talked to them," I said.

"Well, uh, I've been talkin' with Deanna, she seems fine. She lost her husband and her daughter so recently, and Bryan and Sarah are really nice, they got together when it all happened," he said.

"I know about Sarah. I helped her with the garden a little bit. She's really nice. I'm happy for her and the baby. I've only seen Bryan twice, and I haven't talked to him both times. He's fine though," I said.

"Well, it's good that you helped her out. She looks pretty well-kept for this all going on and her being pregnant," he said.

He was right. She's beautiful. She had long brown hair and she was tan. All the times I saw her she had never been sweaty. I don't know how she can do that.

I looked over to Jessie. She looked a little jealous.

We drove for about an hour and a half, when Daryl spoke up.

"Look on the left. Pharmacy," he said.

Dad turned to the left and we got out of the truck.

"Alright, we'll search in this pharmacy and buildings around here. We all go to the truck when it gets dark. Ron and Carl, you guys stay together, and Daryl, you'll go alone. I'll be with Jessie," Dad gave her a flirty look. I was uncomfortable.

He gave Ron and I a knife and two handguns with some extra ammo.

"Alright guys, stay safe. Remember, stuff for the baby and medical things in general. They said they need more clothes, too. Ron, Carl, you guys search the right side of town, Daryl, head left, and Jess and I will figure it out," he said and went into the drugstore with Jessie.

Daryl headed left and Ron and I were left alone.

"Well, let's go," he said.
