Waking up to the relief that Jordan wasn't beside me was nice. She must've crawled back into bed in the middle of the night. All I knew is that she was gone before Ron woke up. Good.
I tapped Ron so he would wake up, which of course he did on the second tap.
I stumbled out of the room clinging to the wall since I didn't have my crutches and hobbled across the hall, half-awake. The banging on the walls must've signaled Jordan that someone was up, and she came out of her room. Her hair was all over the place and she looked well rested. She stretched her arms in the air and let out a sleepy groan.
"Good morning." She said. "Need help?" She could tell I was struggling with standing. I was heading to the bathroom so I declined.
I got into the bathroom hanging on to the doorknob then shut and locked the door. I stumbled to the toilet, held onto the wall so I could balance myself, then pulled my shorts down. It was really hard to stand, but I finished and washed my hands.
Jordan was in the hall, a little bit from the bathroom door. "I had to make sure you didn't fall." She said with a shrug. My cheeks got red from embarrassment and she laughed.
"Ugh, I need to take a shower. I smell bad. We don't have any showers at the Hilltop." She said.
"You can go take one now." My eyes were finally adjusting to the light.
"Will do. Unless you were planning on taking one." She said.
"Nope. I take mine every other day because the standing is really difficult. Go ahead." I said and staggered to my room, which Ron had already gotten dressed. He laid out my clothes on the bed for me. White t-shirt, blue and white flannel, hat, dark jeans, boxers, belt, socks, boots. He's too good.
I put it all on, Ron watching carefully and offering to 'help out' knowing I could do it on my own. He smirked the whole time.
I put the crutches under my arms and headed out of the room. We went downstairs and waited for Jordan at the table. She came down the stairs with tight blue jeans, the varsity football jacket over a white tank top, and loud cowboy boots, and hair that was still wet. She looked really good and I felt bad for thinking that.
We ate some applesauce and the three of us headed out for a walk, which of course was going to be slow. About halfway in we started talking.
"This breeze is really drying my hair fast." Jordan said, flipping some hair out of her face and tucking it behind her ear.
"I bet." Ron said.
"Bad news is, that I forgot my brush at the Hilltop and I have nothing to brush it with so it's going to be all mangled later on." Jordan sighed.
"...We could go get you one." I said. Jordan stopped so I did, and then Ron did.
"Really? How?" She asked.
"Go outside the walls to this pharmacy that's pretty close to here. See what they got." I replied.
"You think they'll let us?" Ron asked.
"We can ask..." I said.
"Alright." Ron said and we turned around and slowly walked to our house, where Dad was, feeding applesauce to Judith.
"Hey Dad." I said. He nodded at us.
"Morning." He said and fed a spoonful to Judith.
"Can we uh... go outside the walls?" I asked.
He looked up. "Why?" Dad asked.
"Jordan forgot her brush at the Hilltop and needs one. Can we go to that pharmacy close to here?" I asked.
