Natalie 1

I didn't ask to be a half-blood, but I guess it's alright. Being a demigod I face danger at pretty much every corner I turn. Now that I know what I am, it explains why I've seen so many weird things in my life growing up. Maybe I should introduce myself.

My name is Natalie James. I used to live in Rome, yup, I'm actually from Rome. I used to attend a school for "troubled" kids. Am I a troubled kid? Yeah. You could say that.

But I swear, I've changed... sort of. I ended up going to a normal school, high school, I joined my school's swim and surf team. Not to brag or anything, but I broke pretty much every record there was.

But I'm sure you don't really care about that, so let me start from the beginning.

My mom, Samantha, and I had moved to Rome when I was just six years old. We moved because my mom wanted me to really get to know my roots. My father, who I don't even know, was, er.. IS Roman. I can't really remember where we moved from, California I think, but it's been nine, almost ten, long years since then. All I really know is that I was born in a place with a beach nearby, and I want to say it was California, but even my mom can't remember.

My 16th birthday will be in about 3 weeks, August 16th, and I have no idea what I want to do. Usually Mom and I go to the Colosseum, go out to dinner, and have dessert on the beach. It's one of my favorite times of the year. My mom is usually so busy with work, so getting one whole day with her is the best thing ever!

I was about to go downstairs to ask her what day I should book tickets to the Colosseum or if she wanted to try doing something else when she knocked on my door and poked her head inside.

"Hey sweetie. What are you up to?"

I shrugged, "Nothing, just Latin homework. Do you need me to help with something?"

I don't know why, but my mom seemed really nervous, "Oh, nothing. Just.. I just have some news."

"Oh. Okay, what is it?"

She bit her lip and looked up towards the sky then closed her eyes.

"Mom?"

She opened her eyes.

"Hey, what's the news?"

She looked at me and took a breath, "Nat," she said, "we're moving back to the states."

My mouth dropped and my eyes grew, "WHAT! The STATES? As in... Back where we USED to live? WHY?" I stood up and started pacing the room.

"Nat I... It's just... I feel like we have to move back... I've been feeling this way for months and I just didn't know how to tell you or when."

I couldn't believe it. But this is my mom, she probably has a much better explanation for all this.

"Okay. So, why back to the states? What's wrong with where we are now?"

"Oh nothing! I love it here, and I know you love it here too, but... We'll be better off in the states. Nat I... I got fired about a month ago."

"WHAT! Mom! You were fired? How could this happen! You're the best English teacher ever!"
