Chapter 21 - The Thought That Counts
I looked around the restaurant that Carson chose and I was pretty impressed. It was a fancy little steak house which thrilled me because I'm not a salad type of girl.
I ordered the nine ounce tenderloin with a side order of shrimp and Carson looked thrown off. I thought it was probably because the tenderloin came with a baked potato and salad the way it was. Then I realized the expression has been there since five other people hurdled out of the house behind me, and had I known this probably actually was a date, I would have never allowed it.
We sat in a circular booth and every time Levi hit on our waitress, I wanted to just punch myself and run right out of there with Carson.
"So, you and Brett aren't...." Carson awkwardly whispered to me, and I shook my head.
"Nope, Melony is his girlfriend."
"And the ginger?"
"Melissa's... fling I think." I shrugged, not really knowing what he was, just that Melissa refused to come here being the third wheel with Levi. I couldn't even make sense of Melissa's interest in Andy, as he blew straw wrappers across the table. Is she sure he's even seventeen?
"So Carson, what are your intentions with my sister?" Levi had already had a beer too many and Brett wore an apologetic look for not keeping Levi in check.
"Ahh-" Carson looked nervous so I cut in. "He doesn't have to answer that."
"No, no." Carson put his hand up. "I just wanted to make sure she was doing alright."
"Alright alright." Tipsy Levi slurred and thankfully was forced to drop the subject because our food arrived.
"I bet you're just as pink as this steak." Levi winked at the waitress and I instantly gagged on my shrimp.
I looked over at the waitress and became even more sick when I saw that she was actually blushing at his statement.
Melissa laughed and rolled her eyes at all of Levi's comments and every time she did, she'd cozy into Andy a bit more.
Meanwhile Levi would shoot her a deadly glare and part of me was really starting to wonder about these two.
"Carson, you seem like a really sweet guy." Melony gushed and leaned forward a bit, causing her shirt to pull down somewhat, and it was obviously intentional.
Carson looked uncomfortable and I gave him credit for diverting his eyes to look at the table instead. "Thanks." He said and ignored the rest of her pleas for attention.
Brett just sat there quietly, staring blankly at the girl he supposedly is in love with.
When the check finally came, Levi was the first one to stand up. "Carson, you got this one, right man?" I couldn't believe what I was hearing. How could Levi be so rude? "I mean you invited us out." Levi shrugged and the rest of them slid out of the booth behind him, not giving Carson much chance to answer.
Melissa paused before leaving and slid two twenties to Carson, "They're real douches." She sighed and walked away holding Andy's hand.
"I'm so sorry. I had no idea that this is what you had planned." I instantly cleared up.
"It's fine, but I guess I won't have enough money to take you out for ice cream." Carson picked up the bill and I followed him to the counter.
I grinned a little bit at how cheesy he is and he gave me a weirded out face.
