Early July in Paris

It was 9 in the morning of Saturday, but Lou's phone seemed like an uncontrollable traffic. There were 5 missed calls from Paul. She got out of her bed and opened up the drape. The sun reflected its refulgence through Lou's white mirror.

"Paul?" asked Lou standing in front of her bedroom's window.

She called Paul back asking why he called her five times in a row.

"Can you meet me today at Luxembourg?" answered Paul on the phone directly.

Lou locked her phone and went to bath. She wanted to spend her Saturday in Ten Belles reading a book, but Paul asked her to meet her, thus she accepted it.

As Lou had arrived at the park, she saw Paul standing by the Medicis Fountain as he took a gulp of coffee that he just bought. Lou walked approaching him and wanted to call his name but Paul already saw her first coming over him. He stared at Lou with the light of sun flashing through his blue eyes. Lou gave him a light kiss on the cheek as Paul held her arm gently.

"Why do you want me to meet you here?" asked Lou stroking her brown hair.

"I can't stop thinking about this," answered Paul as he took the last gulp of his coffee. "There's something in my mind that I think I can't bear anymore."

"Is it about our relationship?" guessed Lou as she pressed her red lips nervously.

Paul disposed his cup of coffee to the trash can nearby and offered his right hand to Lou after that.

"Do you want to walk around?" asked Paul.

Lou took his hand indecisively. They walked around the Luxembourg Gardens without trying to converse. Lou didn't have the gut to start the conversation until Paul stopped and took her hand off of his near the Palace slowly.

"I wonder what it means," said Paul, sighing and staring around the view of the garden. "I wonder why the coffee would be very bitter without sugar."

"And I wonder why the tea would be tasteless without sugar too." answered Lou.

There was the moment of silence between them. They both looked down wondering what these all would lead to.

"I think we are losing the sugar, aren't we?" Paul said, staring at Lou disappointedly.
"Yeah," Lou nodded miserably. "I know that and I am sorry."

They stared to each other deeply. Paul took two hands of Lou and kissed them gently. Lou felt his pointed nose met her hands.

"I love you," said Paul as he let go of her hands. "A lot and still. But I couldn't be in a frigid relationship like this anymore. You're fading away."

"I am sorry because I can't be the sugar in your coffee anymore."

Lou started to cry but she held it as if she tried to hold her yawn. She could see how disappointed Paul was from his eyes in the very first time she met him that day. They both tried to look strong and encourage one another.

"You are not the sugar. You have always been the same Lou to me." said Paul as he pushed himself to smile.

"It was a privilege to have myself loved by you," answered Lou. "Thank you for understanding."

Paul hugged Lou as if it was going to be the last time for them. It was a warm hug but cold for Lou where she could feel his heart beating so fast in her chest. The wind blew away Lou's hair gently and that was when Paul let go of Lou from his hug.

"I am sorry," Paul touched her cheeks with both of his hands and walked away.

Lou understood that Paul still loved her, and so did she.
