The birds chirp their joyous tunes as slumber no longer grasp them. They woke, happily to see the early morning sun, unaware of the tragedies which took place throughout the night. I sat, tired and out of breath, underneath a larger tree panting and holding back tears which threaten to shed as the mother bird sung proudly to her young within the nest.I could still hear it, the screams and plead for mercy as my people begged for their lives. I longed escaped the shrieks of terror as we ran from the people we were taught to trust with our lives. My heart still beat like a fiercely thumping drum, vibrating my very being like the pounding of the village gate.
I clutched my father's dagger as a single tear escaped the wave I was holding back and quickly, with my sleeve I wiped the drop away from my face. This was not the time or the place to be mourning, I have to keep moving, it is what he would had wanted.
Inhaling a shaky breath, I cleared my thoughts and stood from my spot and began to look where I was.
There were trees as far as I could see and wildlife bristling everywhere, going about their daily task and surviving. The morning sun shone through the openings within the leaves and squirrels scampered throughout fallen logs and down the trunks of trees.
These animals knew what it was they needed to do in order to live and survive another day and it was my turn to do the same, there were no telling if guards had decided to follow us this far out into the forest.
I finally stood and walked the trail of the forest, not knowing where it may take me.
An hour had passes and the morning sun was making its climb across the sky. I continued to cautiously make my way towards who knows where without running into trouble. It was a miracle really, at the state I was in I would no doubt have trouble taking on my attacker. My body was beginning to yearn for rest and food but I refused to stop until i was able to find shelter for the night.
Feeling the exhaustion take a toll on me, I looked to the sky as if all my answers where written in the golden clouds beyond the parted trees.
"Your going to be okay, we just need to find somewhere for you to rest."
I halted in my tracks and quickly readied my fathers dagger I I hid to the neared tree. I listened carefully unsure if I was really starting to hear things.
"Please hang on Rion."
Cautiously, with my guard on high alert, I began to walk forward as I weaved passed bushes and dishes the scattered remains of nature until I held sights of a clearing I had missed.
Within the middle of the surrounding of the trees and bushes was a girl no older than I, kneeling with a boy. The boy had to be about her age and by the looks of it was unconscious. The girl pushed her black hair back as she tried standing with the boy who was a little larger than herself.
I could not leave her there to get caught by the guards, they would kill her where she stood.
I lift my shirt and hid the dagger within the hem of my pants than rest the fabric into where it was hidden from he is. Once I deemed it was unnoticeable I left my hiding spot.
"What's wrong?"
The girl whipped her head at me preparing to fight, but visibly relaxed once she saw my attire matched that of a villager and not a guard.
"It's my friend, he fainted a while ago, I need help lifting him. I saw some other people running and tried calling for help but no one stopped. Please could you help me."
Once near the girl, I went to the boy's left side to lifting his other arm. I, not being that much stronger, resulted in me only helping dragging the poor boy.
