Chapter 36:
NIALL
I was nervous. I have never really been on an actual date, and I had no idea what I was getting myself into tonight. I did go to the hospital to check up on my mum, but I didn't say a word to Erik, too nervous and flustered to even put a whole sentence together. I can't tell if that upset him or not, but he seemed pretty distant after realizing I wouldn't respond. Hopefullt I didn't completely ruin everything.
I was impatiently waiting for a knock at the door or a phone call from Erik saying he was here. I was reallt hesitant with giving him my address. My house wasn't all nice and lovely like his. I hardly made much money, so I had such a small place, but it was good enough for me. The thing is, would it change his opinion of me? I didn't want that, but I also didn't want someone to onlt want me for how they thought I was.
I jumped in surprise as I heard a knock at the door. Multiple thoughts popped into my head as I made my way over to answer it, there were things like 'fuck, I'm not ready for this', 'what if I'm not dressed well enough for him', and even 'what if he hates me after the little speechless stunt I pulled today'? All of those questions flooded my mind, until I finally reached the door and answered it slowly.
I swear my heart stopped when I saw Erik standing there, smiling that same stunning smile, dressed in a button up and jeans- I was glad I wasn't underdressed- and holding flowers in his hand. It finally dawned on me that him- this amazing, incredibly smart man who could literally be with anyone they want- was taking me out on a date because he wanted to.
I couldn't speak, too shocked and in awe of the gorgeous human standing in front of me, but I didn't have to because he did. "Agrimony and almond flowers. Thankfulness and promise." He said, and I stood there, not knowing what to say.
"I'm thankful you're giving me a chance to actually show you how much I like you, and I promise to take care of you if you ever give me that opportunity as well." He said, as he stepped closer to me. I was breathless as we came face to face. "You look beautiful, Niall." He complimented, making me blush and look away. I looked the same way I always did. What was so beautiful about it?
He turned my face back to him with gentle hands and smiled, the look in his eyes showing so much adoration that it made me want to swoon. "You're always beautiful." He said, pressing a small, fleeting kiss to my lips, and I was pretty sure I died just then.
"Ready to go?" He asked, and I nodded, taking the flowers and setting them on top of a counter before leaving my house, locking the door behind us. We walked to his car, which was way better looking than my own or anything I could afford, but none of that seemed to even bother him as we walked passed my car along the way. He opened up the passenger door for me, and I thanked him quietly as I got into his car, waiting until he walked around to the driver's seat.
Finally, I was able to speak up as he began driving, probably because his eyes were no longer on mine. "So, I'm guessing there's no big, fancy dinner date?" I questioned because everything was so casual so far. I actually liked it. I was never a fan of bigger and fancier things. I didn't grow up around them, besides the times I slept over at Harry's house- and even he hated it, and I didn't want them.
"Nope. Did you think that just because I'm a doctor who makes good money that I'd be taking you to a five-star dinner and then a movie or something?" He questioned teasingly, making a joke out of the 'typical date' scene.
I laughed and said "Honestly, yes." That made him laugh as well. "But I guess you have some surprises up your sleeve. Those flowers were definitely a surprise. Everyone goes with a rose." I commented.
