Chapter 62:
LOUIS
"He owns several properties, but I mapped out the closest three." Lincoln said. I was on the verge of tears. It's been almost twelve hours, and I had no idea where Harry was. I've never been this attached to anybody. The last person I was attached to was my mum, and she was taken away from me, never to breathe another breath. It pained me to think of something like that ever happening to Harry.
He was so innocent, so sweet, so loving. He never did any harm to anybody, and we were so close to having it all. We were so close to leaving, going back home and falling into our perfect life. I actually dared myself to think I could have a perfect life.
"Louis, if we're going to find him, you have to listen to me." Lincoln said. I looked up at him, seeing how worn out he looked already. He was a bit on the older side, but I could tell he wanted to find Harry just as much as I did.
"Why are you helping me? I mean, aren't you his driver? Shouldn't you be loyal to him?" I questioned, not having any bite in my tone at all. I was much too tired for that.
"I was at first." He explained, circling three different spots in red on a little map he had. "But Druer is a cruel man."
"What'd he do?" I asked, not sure about whether I should ask or not.
"Several things. No holiday breaks, not even Christmas. He cut my wage in half as soon as I reached the age of sixty. Said I was a liability to his business. It's always about the business. Never about family." He said, pausing for a second and smiling softly.
"My wife, Elizabeth, she was lovely. She was the only one I've ever loved. High school sweethearts, we were. Maybe not the prettiest girl to someone else, but she made me the happiest man in the world. Until she got sick." He struggled with emotions as he carried on.
"She was so ill, and I wanted only a few days off to be by her bedside and take care of her. Druer laughed in my face, saying that I was a poor peasant who didn't deserve it. He said there were better women out there. Who could have been better than my Elizabeth?" He asked, a small smile on his face.
"She died on the third day. She died as I was driving Druer to a meeting fourteen hours away. And I couldn't see her for two whole days afterwards." He divulged. "I know what it's like to lose a loved one. I don't want anything to happen to the one you love as well. Harry was a sweet and gentle person, and I've only met him a couple of times. And with how desperately you want to find him, I can tell that he just lights up your world, makes it a better place, a sane place, a hopeful future. So I will do all I can to help you find him." He confessed, and I felt choked up with emotions, something I only knew to show to Harry.
"Thank you, Lincoln."
"No need to thank me. Now, I'll send some friends over to one of the houses. Which one do you want to take?" He asked. I scanned the houses, looking at the areas of where they were. If I was to take someone, I'd take them to a desolate place, which is where one of the houses seemed to be. I was seen as a criminal, however, while Druer is a wealthy business man with nothing to hide. That left the other two houses. Now it was fifty-fifty.
"This one." I said, pointing to a house on the left side of the map.
"That house's only a couple hours away. We'll leave now. I'll check out the other house. We'll call if he's there."
"And what do we do if he's not?" I asked, the thought making my heart ache with so much agony. I needed Harry to be okay. He was all I had. All I wanted.
