34: Between Us

Darren's POV

I felt something heavy yet comfortable on my bare chest. I opened my eyes from the deep slumber, and saw Averyn's head was on my chest. I pulled away her brown hair,to see her beauty face. She frowned in her sleep, probably was in hangover. My mind replayed my conversation with Jake last night, as I adored her.

I was tapped on shoulder by Jake when I was searching for the brunette I love. I turned around and his face was masked with a frown. "Do you like her too?" he asked out of blue. I nodded my head confidently although he didn't explained who is her. There's only a her I love,and that is Averyn. But, wait. Too? Could it be.....

"She is in a room. She confessed her true feelings on me. I guess she drunk and confused between us. We wore same blue shirt,right?" he cleared. "What did she say?" I asked eagerly. "She loves you so much but afraid to spill the truth. She doesn't want you and her turned out awkward and start keeping a distance. She rather to keep her heart alone, as long as you stay beside her."

"How can I know if you're telling me the truth?" He shrugged his shoulders, leading me to a room upstairs. "You can ask her tomorrow," he suggested before he opened the room's door.

I brought her to my house,because her mother was outstation. She moved a bit, her eyebrows furrowed. Then,she quickly woke up and ran to my bathroom. She threw up in the toilet bowl, and I quickly helped her. I pulled her brown hair away from her face, a hand rubbed her back. After few minutes, she walked to the sink, washing her mouth and pale face while I flushed the toilet, standing behind her,holding her hips. "Feeling better?" I asked. She nodded her head weakily, and I helped her out of the bathroom. I sat her down on my bed, running to the kitchen to grab a glass of water and painkiller. It was her first time got a hangover,and I was sure she didn't know how to handle it.

I handed her the painkiller and water, and she gulped it down her throat. "Take some rest. It's your first time after all.We'll have a talk once you're okay," I chirped. She nodded her head and lied down on the bed. I made my way to the kitchen to make pancakes.

I was making the fifth pancakes when Averyn appeared in the kitchen."Hey!" I greeted her. She gave me an awkward smile and sat in the dining table. She tapped her fingers on the table, and I quickly finished my sixth pancakes. I plated three in each plate, one for me and one for her. I put the plate in front of her and sat opposite with Averyn. I poured two cups of coffee and placed one next to her plate. "Are you okay?" I asked as I poured some syrup on her pancakes. I handed her a fork, and she accepted it with a small thank you. "I'm sorry," she said. "For what?" She sighed, "For last night."

"The confession?" I teased. She bit her lower lip, took a bite of pancake. "Can I hear it again? Since you are sober now," I pleaded. She looked at me with wide eyes, and I saw she blushed. She dropped her gaze on pancakes shyly, and I let out a chuckle. "Actually, you confessed to the wrong person last night," I cleared.She looked at me with frown and I gave her an assured look.

"You were drunk and you mistaken between me and Jake.We both wearing blue shirt but he paired it with brown jeans while I'm in black jeans.He told me about your confession before I bring you home." She closed her mouth with surprise. "That was why I saw something brown when you walked out from the room. And your voice sounded different. I thought it was because my mind didn't work well that time. I really thought he was you. Damn, I'm screwed," she blurted.

"Did you really love me? Not as my bestfriend, but as me?" I asked for confirmation. "You're not feeling the same,right? Can't we act like normal? Forget about my confession. Oh, it's so awkward as hell. Like...oh my god! I'm so sorry.I'll go home now so I can calm down. It's fine if you didn't feel the same way. It's okay of you didn't want to talk with me anymore. It's okay if you want to end our friendship. Wait,no! I don't want our friendship to over. Even we just been friends for 2 years, I feel comfortable with you more than I ever be with my relatives. But I can't keep you beside me when you probably disgusted with my confession. I mean, I'm not as pretty as Jennifer, I'm boring. Like, how could I betray our friendship because of my stupid feeling.It's all because the kiss! I couldn't handle myself the first time you kiss me. All your sweet gestures when we were couple created love. Who should I blame? You? No! You're innocent. Then, it's me! I'm the one who dragged myself into this mayhem! I screwed myself. To fall in love with my bestfriend!" She exclaimed. I stood up and stand beside her. I grabbed her face and smacked our lips together.

She looked surprised and tried to push me away but as I deepened the kiss, her hands landed on my elbows. I pulled away, looking at her with a smile. "Did you know that I feel the same to you? I love you too,Averyn. I couldn't stop myself to kiss you, hold you, protect you, admiring you and make you stay beside me. You are adorable, cute, fresh, happy go lucky and very humble. I like and love you so much. You don't know how jealous I am to watch other boys stare at your bare legs during the dance night, how Jake complimented you, that's hurt me as hell. He even confessed to me that he thought he could have a chance to be with you if I didn't date with you. I'm sorry if I didn't tell you the truth about my feelings on you earlier. I didn't want us to separate if you didn't like me too. I felt the same with you, to save our friendship more than spilling out my heart. To let you stay with me although I need to love you in silence. I really love you, Averyn." I said.

She hugged me and I wrapped my arms around her waist. I kissed her upper head lovely.

That was how we found out about what was between us.It is a friendship that turned out as love.
