17 : Let The Performance Begin

Averyn's POV

   Darren parked his car, and we stepped out. Helen and Dania walked in first, leaving me and Darren. He grabbed his guitar in his car, and slung it on his body. "I need to hold your arms so I didn't slip," I asked for permission. "Sure, sweetie," he said with a smile. I wrapped my fingers around his left arm, and we started made our way into the school hall.

   Tonight, we decided to sing two songs. Sorry by Justin Bieber and Flashlight by Jessie J. At first, we wanted to sing Flashlight only but Darren exclaimed that Sorry's song could help anyone in the hall trying to get back with their partner. Maybe his idea sound illogical but we should give it a try.

   As we stepped in with lots of attentions at us because maybe I wore a dress which is out of my comfortable zone, or Darren was too hot until a girl spilled her water on the floor. I tighten my grip on his arm, kept my head on the ground. "Hey!" I heard Jake's voice. He approached us in the crowded hall. He wore a black buttoned up shirt with black jeans and white converse. He unbuttoned two upper buttons,sweat visible on his neck. "You guys will perform after principal's speech. So, you've got around 10 minutes to get ready," he cleared.I saw him stole few glances on me while talking with Darren. Darren nodded his head, understood Jake's words.

   "Ave, you look so beautiful tonight." Jack praised me. I gave a sweet smile. "Thank you. You look handsome too," I said. Darren cleared his throat, putting his fingers on mine which on around his arm, and Jake quickly excused himself. "Damn it!" Darren muttered under his breath. I looked at him with narrowed eyes."What is that?" I asked. He gazed at me for few moments before shook his head off. "Do you want to grab anything to eat first? Or we should go to the backstage?" Before I could answer it, he cut my words. "I know. You wait at the backstage while I grab foods for you. It'll be complicated with you in high heels holding a plate of foods and all," he claimed.

   I elbowed him and he gave me his guitar, ushered me to wait at the backstage. I obeyed him and now I sat on a chair assigned for both of us, practicing the songs. I heard the microphone tapped on the stage, and the MC started the night dance. After few words and all, the principal invited to give a speech. Meanwhile, Darren showed up with two mineral waters and a plate filled with two cupcakes and egg tarts. I hold the plate while he took a sit beside me. While listening to the speech,I ate the egg tart.

   Claps cheered the hall as the speech finished. I took a big gulp of my water, rubbing my hands together as I was nervous. Man,this gonna be the first and last time I was on the stage so better I didn't screw it. "We can do it," Darren cheered. He looked normal, not nervous at all. The MC invited us to the stage, and I held Darren's hands while stepping up the stairs. Two mic stands with microphone and two high chairs situated on the stage. I sat on one of it while Darren plugged his guitar with wires that connected to the speaker.

   I checked the microphone,and so did Darren. I looked around the hall. Students packed in and they were already with their partners, ready for the dance. I saw Dania and Harry at one side,while Helen with a boy at the other side. "Hello everyone.I 'm Averyn," I introduced myself,shifting the mic position correctly."And I'm Darren," Darren said.Other students clapped their hands, and I replied with a big smile. "So, we're going to sing two songs tonight. At the meantime,you guys can dance with your partners. We decided to sing Sorry by Justin Bieber in case anyone here wants to redeem their mistakes with their lover. Then,Flashlight by Jessie J to show how important your partner in your life," Darren cleared. We stared into each other, and I gave him the sweetest smile I've ever give."So, enjoy," I added.

   Students started taking their places in the hall, facing their partners. Darren plucked strings of his guitar, and I took a deep breathe as we started our performance.
