11 : Cross The Boundaries

Averyn's POV

   We walked out from the class and saw Darren already waiting for us in the hallway alone."Where's Helen?" Dania asked.Darren looked at me for few seconds and I gave him a weak smile. "She's having some works to settle," he cleared and I could see he glanced at me while answering the question. I didn't know why but I felt tired already.It wasn't like I was doing a marathon but maybe with lots of surprise happened to me, my heart beat faster than usual that all of mitocondrians in my cells worked harder, it had drained my energy.

   We walked out from the school,waving Dania goodbye since her home was different way from ours. I guessed Darren noticed my sudden change of mood because he kept glancing at me but didn't say a word. We never this quiet when walking home. We'll usually talk about random things or changing pickup lines. He walked closer with me, until our shoulders met. I didn't look at him, instead walking forward like he didn't exist beside me.

   I heard him sigh, and broke the silence. "Are you mad at me? For all sudden kisses that happened? I'm sorry but-" "We'll talk about that later. I'm tired and not in mood," I cut his words. With deepen eyebrows, he counted something with his fingers. I stopped my steps, looking at him.Few of his dark brown hair felt on his forehead. "I guess it's the day.It's been a month already," he chirped. "What?" I asked with lifted eyebrows. "Your monthly period." By that, I smacked his head. "How long you've been counting it?" I asked furiously.

   "Since last year," he said calmly,with a smirk. I kicked his leg and ran to my house whick took only 7 steps. I quickly stepped in and locked my door. From inside, I heard his chuckle and quickly walked upstairs into my room. I threw my backpack and phone on the table, noticed the calendar I ticked when I got my monthly period. I looked over, counting the days since my last period till today's date. Damn, he was right. I rushed into the bathroom to take a shower and found some blood on my underwear. He was creeping me out.

   After few minutes, I wore my shirt and sweatpant, startled with a beep sound of my phone. I looked over and saw a text from my neighbour that across my home.

Darren: We'll talk about it tonight. At the park.

   He meant the kisses things.Good because I wanted to know his real reasons. I set my alarm on 6 o' clock and took a nap.

   I waited in front of his house,not bothering to knock the door because I informed him I was waiting outside. The night's breeze was cold that I decided to put on my hoodie and put my hands in my grey hoodie's pockets. Tapping my feet that covered in my white converse on the ground, Darren stepped out from his house wearing a black hoodie and sweatpants.

   He locked the door since his mom was having a business trip while Danny was living with his grandparents for two weeks. "Do you want to grab coffee first?" he asked as we made our way to the nearby park. "Sounds good," I agreed. A cup of hot coffee could warm my freezing hands. We strolled the road to the nearby cafe.I  waited outside while Darren bought the coffee. After few minutes, he walked out with two cups of steaming coffee.

   I took one of it from his hand,thanking him before having a sip.The coffee warmed my body. We walked to the park while holding our coffee. We didn't talk anything until we sat on a wooden bench at there. The bench was facing a lake,and we sat beside each other too close until our shoulders met.

   "I'm sorry." I found nervous in his voice. "It's fine. I just need explanation," I shrugged. He looked at me, his brown eyes were staring mine. He faced to the lake again, playing his fingers with the coffee's cup.

   "I don't know. Maybe because they asked us to start being as a couple. Start looking at you from different side. So, I did what every couple do. I thought you're okay with it."

   I sighed. "I know. But, it's too fast. At least you should let me know."

   "I told you yesterday that we'll be couple today. I thought you got it," he sighed.

  "I'm not expecting that sudden kisses and all," I explained.

   "Then, you should. From now on,we're going to cross our line."

   Furrowing eyebrows, I looked at him. "What line?" He stared at me,and hold the gaze. "The rules you set. No cuddling, no skinships from below your waist, and no kisses on lips."

   "We agreed on it, right?"

   He raked his fingers through his brown hair. His eyes met mine again. "That's when we're bestfriends. Now, we're a couple.We shouldn't have rules between us. Can't you just accept that we are now a couple?"

   I stared at his eyes. "We're trying to figure out our feelings.No creating it. I don't think it's needed."

   He took a sip of his coffee before started talking. "How can you know if you don't try it? How can you discover your true feelings on me if we still in friendship's state? You'll keep talking to yourself that I'm your best boy friend, not a boy named Darren Handerson who is the only boy in your life. Start looking at me from different side, just like I did it on you," he exclaimed.

   Silence filled the air, and I was trying to find logic in his words.Maybe he was right. Maybe. If I kept looking at him as my bestfriend, I couldn't confirm my own feelings towards him because of a space called friendzone. I need to cross the line, at least give it a try even I was quite sure I didn't have love feelings on him.

   I nodded my head, gazing his eyes again. "I'll try. But, why you told those two blonde girls that we're dating? Why didn't you tell her the truth? About our plan?"

   He chuckled by my questions."Are you crazy? What will others think when they find out that we're just faking a relationship to know the truth about our real feelings? Didn't you remember how hate they are when we announced that we are bestfriends? What will they talk and do to you if they find out about this plan? That you're an outcast girl that trying to take advantage on me? Making me fall in love with you?"

   "You're right," I said. I finished my coffee and so did Darren. He grabbed my empty cup and threw it in the garbaged bin, along with his. He sat beside me again,hugging my shoulders. "So, from now on, we'll be as a couple, not bestfriends, okay?" I nodded my head, looking at him with a smile.

   He leaned his face closer, and before I could push his face away,he kissed my lips. My widen eyes met his, and he smiled behind my lips.

   Damn, I need to get use with all the kisses.
