AN: Askew.

Was I doing enough?

Fiddling with the stubborn ring, I sighed and placed it aside, unsure what to do next.

"Peter, what would you have me do?" I asked aloud, knowing I would not hear a response.  We had, quite drunkenly, discussed the inevitability of his not returning from some trip or another.  About how he wanted Juliette raised.  About what she would inherit.  Her becoming Queen had never been an eventuality in any of these decisions.  More than anything, Peter Collingswood wanted to see his daughter happily married to someone who would take care of her.  Nothing else mattered.
