There were not many mementos left from my mother. Perhaps they were stored away, packed into the attic with so many other things. Papa rarely spoke of her and I had to press Askew for any particular details.
The silver hair ornament was something I liked to believe was a favorite of hers, but of course, I would never know. There was not much she left behind.
I had been told I had inherited her hair - allegedly known throughout the country for its glory. Mine had a blonder hue, but I was told in time I would rival her.
