There was a gentle tap at my door and, looking up from my reading, I answered, "Come in."
This late and that particular sound could only mean Quick. He came in slowly, carrying something very carefully in his hands. Rushing to his side, I asked, "What do we have here?"
"'Fish."
"Yes, I see that." I plucked the grubby bowl and placed it gently on a table. Looking into the water, I noted a small goldfish, with one of his tail fins slightly torn. "A fighter, then?"
"Yes." He scuffed a toe and then remembered to add, "Your majesty."
"Why did you bring him to me?"
"I thought the unicorn could fix him."
"Did you?"
"Maybe."
It hadn't even occurred to me that this was something to consider. There were legends that unicorns had healing properties, but there had been no indication of these powers.
So why not start small?
"Let us go and see, shall we?"
AN: For the record, I have no idea if goldfish existed in London circa 1840. Also, over by a few.
