They loved her. It was clear in their eyes. Each step they took up the stairs, Luke held her hand and squeezed as she paused to stop once and a while. It was cute. Pausing on the landing, I wait for them to catch up, unsure where I am going besides up when my eyes meet those steal grey eyes from before hanging over the edge of the stair case another floor up. Mr. Owen Blackbourne. Waving his hand, signaling to come, I skip every other step easily making it up the stairs in half the time and stop in front of him.
"Miss. Black." He states easily but as he pronounces the last name I can see his eyes cloud a little. Ignoring his reaction, I nod my head in welcome.
"Mr. Blackbourne." I state greeting the male before glancing around the floor a little curious why this floor looked so much different from the rest of the house. A couple of minutes later, North, Luke, and Sang join us on the landing and Mr. Blackbourne takes the lead. My eyes scan the different rooms that pass. Some of the doors are open and I make out a library and an office before we move into a large conference room at the end of the hallway.
Almost instantly a number of eyes are on me and I glance up to meet their stares before taking a spot next to the door, unsure where to sit. North and Luke easily take their seats at the end of the table but the girl stops glancing to me unsure what to do or say. "It's okay. Go sit down." I whisper and her eyes widen and a purely soft smile appears on her lips as she nods and then moves to the final open chair around the table.
Ten.
Ten fucking pairs of eyes followed my movements as I slowly moved to the side of the door. Closing the door, I slowly lean against the wall, allowing myself to relax slightly.
Before I have time to think, Mr. Blackbourne clears his throat. "Okay, let's begin." He states easily crossing his legs slightly. "As you are all aware, recently we have been using up a large amount of our favors from the Academy." He states glancing to the others slowly. "Between keeping Ashley Waters above water, bringing Sang into the Academy and keeping everyone safe our favors have been depleted. I know each of you has been working very hard in earning more but we have been asked personally from someone higher up to take on a larger mission that will easily help us replenish what we have lost." He states pausing for a moment before taking a breath. "And I have accepted it already on our behalf." A number of eyes widen at this but I can't help but smirk in response.
For my safety they were paying this team favors, it must be a lot with my track record.
"What is the mission?" One of the boys speak up in a clear crisp voice and my eyes land on some dark green eyes covered by glasses. Kota Lee. The head of the group.
"And what the fuck does it have to do with this girl?" Gabriel responds his eyes on me once more. I bite my tongue to keep myself from returning the swearing as I catch Mr. Blackbourne throwing a glare.
"Miss. Black is the mission." He states easily and instantly all eyes are on me. "As you all know after completing a high risk mission, teams are transferred from one place to another in order to make sure of their safety. Miss. Black has just completed a mission in which both the police and the academy were both involved in and while she awaits the court date in order to testify, she has been sent here for protective custody."
He pauses and the room is dead silent for a few moments before North is on his feet his eyes fixed intensely on me. "So someone is after her and they decided to send her here. Are they fucking mad? Are you fucking mad? What if they come after her? She should be with her own team dealing with this mess."
Instantly my stomach aches and I glance down at my feet. A team. There was a time I had a team. That was fucking never going to happen again. Taking in a sharp breath, I cover my pained chest glancing at Mr. Blackbourne to continue. "Mr. Taylor enough." Mr. Blackbourne states his eyes focused upon the male in front of him waiting for him to sit down. "Miss. Black was sent to our team because we would be in the best position to make sure she was safe." He pauses glancing to me. "And she does not have a team."
The words hang in the air and I meet eyes that are burning with intensity. Victor Morgan. His eyes search me for a moment and then widen. "You are a ghost." He states and I nod slightly and a small gasp comes from the girl. Her bright green eyes are trained on me in both surprise and curiosity. Smart kid
"She is Mr. Morgan. One of the rare few in the Academy." He glances to the girl who blushes softly and I shift slightly on my feet. They all love her. Interesting.
"What is it like?" The girls voice rings out and I turn to her realizing that the question is for me.
I shrug slightly meeting those bright green eyes. "Its fine." I state quietly not wanting to speak more about it with all of the others in the room.
"Since the mission has already been accepted, Miss. Black will be stationed here at the Morgan's." He states and instantly Victor is standing up from his seat his eyes wild. "She will be able to keep an eye out for Mr. Morgan since we know that his father is returning home." Instantly Victor's eyes land on me.
"Say no." He states quietly and the girl steps from her chair moving to Victor placing her hand on his side. Feeling her hand, I watch as Victor calms down a little but he continues standing. "Please." He whispers trying to hold back the pain in his voice and I know that he is trying to warn me.
This kid is scared. This bastard was definitely going down.
