I lie in awake in my bed with Liam beside me. He's snoring softly and has his face buried in my neck, his arm wrapped tight around my waist.
I try to sleep, but my head is reeling with disbelief. It is impossible that Liam and I are together. The last twenty four hours must have been a dream.
I have a million questions to ask him, but I don't want the answers to them. Because what if the answers are worse than I expect?
I sigh, lifting my hand up and pulling it gently through his hair. He sighs in his sleep.
"CC," he whispers, his breath warm on my neck, "Babe why are you awake?"
"How do you know I wasn't asleep?" I ask, feigning innocence.
"I could practically hear you thinking. What's on your mind?"
You.
"Nothing, just school and stuff."
"I know you're lying," he says, propping himself up on and elbow, his hair a mess and his eyes sleepy, "but ill let it slide."
He kisses me gently, barely a kiss, whisper soft, and then looks down at me. He nudges my nose with his, his eyes meeting mine.
"Hi," he says, bracing a hand beside my head.
"Hey," I say back. And then he kisses me. Properly this time, his fingers buried in my hair. I match his mouth, kiss for kiss, lick for lick until we break apart for air.
Nothing has ever felt so right.
"Hey Mom," I say, shyly, walking into the kitchen once Liam has left, "I just wanted to tell you something." She looks up from her coffee and gives me a questioning look.
"What is it sweetheart?"
I took a deep breath and spat it out before I could convince myself not to. "Liam and I are dating."
I waited, ten seconds, twenty, thirty, and the crease between her eyebrows got deeper and deeper. I held my breath.
"Weren't you already dating?"
"Uhhh....no?" What? When? How? HUH?
"Oh. I thought you two were dating and you just never told me." And then she went about her business as if nothing had happened.
"Seriously?" Liam asks, when I recount the conversation to him before school Monday.
"Yes! It was so strange! How could she think we were already dating?"
"I don't know, maybe because we were so close?"
He pulled into the parking lot and, as usual, all eyes were on him as he climbed out of the car. And then, all eyes were on me, as Liam pulled me flush against him and kissed me hard on the mouth.
Well. I guess that clears up who Liam Jesop's mystery girl is.
