(A/N-this is my first fanfic and the chapters at the beginning are quite small but they do get longer. They were written on the iPad so there was no word count. I'm currently writing another fanfic called When It All Turns To Ash which is another Ashton fanfic and I like the storyline a lot more so check that out if you want:-)Leaving is still being updated every week or so though:-))

"Darce, wake up, we're leaving!" Calum screamed in my ears whilst franctically jumping on my bed. When the realisation that it was our 18th birthday today actually hit I couldn't get out of bed quicker. It meant that we could finally leave this place and everyone in it, a day that we had both been looking forward to all of our lives. The only person that I was going to miss was going to be little Toby who was the only one who wasn't annoying as hell. That's the problem with living in a home, everyone thinks they're entitled to know everything about you. Well now I'm 18 I say a massive 'fuck you' to everyone here.
"We're not allowed to wake Toby." I quietened my older brother. To be fair, I didn't really care about whatever stupid rules Sally had set for us to follow on our day of leaving but I didn't want to wake the younger boy for other reasons. It would mean saying a goodbye that I don't think that I would be able to cope with. Toby was only 11 years old and like another brother to me, leaving him here alone was hard enough as it is. Like us, he didn't get along with any of the other children. There were 16 of us in total. All of us caged up in this dingy home counting down the days until our 18th birthday so that we could leave.
"He's not going to mind Darcy, anyway we're leaving today so I'm pretty sure he's not going to hold a grudge." I grabbed the two bags that I had statigically placed under my bed, ready for today. I threw one at Calum making sure that it hit him for his remark about Toby. Calum wasn't as close to him as I was, he only really spoke to me. Leaving Toby behind wasn't going to be a problem for Calum as he didn't become attached to the boy like I had.
Despite my intentions of the bag hitting Calum, he managed to catch it and flash me a smug grin afterwards. He set off straight away pushing his entire wardrobe into the worn out black suitcase. I mimicked his actions, but neatly folding each of my clothes. I kept out a plain white shirt and pulled it over my head and paired it with my ripped jeans. I also grabbed out one of my deep red flannels and tied it around my waist.
Sally had told us that we weren't to pre pack our bags so it took us a good half hour to pack every single of one our belongings into a single bag. Calum and I were silent whilst doing so. If we didn't speak then we could pack quicker and then get ourselves out of this place quicker.
"You packed Darce?" Cal appeared at my side wearing a plain black top and black skinny jeans. He was clutching his large suitcase as he nodded toward my similarly sized red one. Instead of verbally responding, I nodded and lugged my suitcase out of the room.
Cal practically ran out of the room and down the stairs whilst I turned around and took a last glance around the room. I wasn't going to necessarily miss this place but all of the memories that it held. I had spent my entire life here, having eveything provided for me and now I'm going to have to do that all myself. I grabbed the corners of Toby's duvet and tucked him in once more. It was something that I've done for him since he'd arrived and it a only just dawned on me that this would be the last time that I would be able to do it for him. I turned around and tried to stop myself from getting emotional about leaving the only person besides Calum who actually paid any attention to me.
I reached the bottom of the stairs and spotted Cal talking to Sally, our social worker. She glanced over Cal's shoulder and motioned for me to join them. I put my bag at the bottom of the stairs next to Cal's and slowly made my way over to them. I stood next to Calum and turned my attention to Sally's monontone voice.
"Darcy, I was just informing Cal that you as you two are now 18," i hated when she called him Cal, that was my name for him, and if she called him it then it sounds as if she was his friend and she is not our friend. She is the sole reason that we have had basically no social life our entire existence. "you have permission to leave the orphanage for good. I see you are eager to leave so I won't keep you. Here is £400 from the institution to get you started in the world, this is to be split equally between the two of you" She glared at Calum as if to say she knew he would spend it all himself, she doesn't know him. "this money is to be spent wisely until you have jobs yourself and can afford an income, that's all I have to say, you are free to leave." It sounded so generic, as if she has recited the same old shit countless amounts of times.
She ran her hands over her perfectly sleaked bun and turned around before we could say anything. Calum lifted the brown package which contained our money and wiggled his eyebrows.
"Calum, that money is for necessaties." I stated taking the packet and tucking it into the top of my suitcase.
"So off to the thistle then?" Calum asked. It had been our only plan. We don't really have any other friends and we have no family to go and crash with. To be completely honest it's never really bothered us and it shouldn't start now just because we don't have a perticular plan. This was the only down side to moving out from the orphanage, we had no plan. All we had discussed would be that we would stay at The Thistle for a bit with the money that we would be given and just try to figure out what to do from there. Calum and I are both fairly independent people and if it all goes wrong then we will figure something out.
"You are going to have to get a few more gigs off of Steve though, once this money runs out we're going to have nothing." Steve owned the local pub and often gave Calum a bit of money to perform every now and then. Calum was the talented twin. He had an amazing singing voice and could also play the guitar very well. As Calum didn't really talk to people other than me at the orphanage he decided the teach himself a skill. It took him a few years to fully perfect it but now he is very good. I, on the other hand, have no musical ability whatsoever. Calum would try to teach me how to play the guitar but every attempt failed miserably.
Calum agree to getting more gigs and we set off with empty plans but high spirits and that was all that we needed.
