Darcys POV:
Ashton was stood waiting at the end of the bar for me to reach him. Despite there being a few people waiting for Ashton to serve them, he kept his focus on me. Once i had made my way to the bar Ashton lifted up his phone in plain view of all of the customers, again not caring about his bosses rules. "You haven't text me yet." he stated. Its true though. I've saved his number on my phone for reasons that i'm not yet aware of myself but i haven't actually gave him mine yet.
I sat down on the same stool that i had done earlier on in the morning and rested my phone on the bar. "True." Was all i replied. He looked down at me, unsure of how to reply. I could tell that he wasn't used to girls not giving him their number. To be fair if i hadn't of seen him being arrogant beforehand then i probably would have given him my number by now. He is very hot and Australian, both major turn ons. Unfortunately arrogance is an even bigger turn off so it kind of cancelled out both of them.
A man from the opposite end of the bar shouted at Ashton to get his attention. He used his name so the man was obviously a regular of the pub. "John." He greeted the man. "I'll be back in a second." He told me, finally taking an interest in his job. Ashton walked over to the man and instantly started pouring a Carling from out of the lager tap before actually speaking to the man. "£3.50 then, mate." He took the money off of the older man and then put in into the till. John, the man Ashton was serving then began gulping down the drink as Ashton came back over to me.
"Watch out for him later." He warned me, looking back over to the man who had already managed to drink the entire pint. "He's a creep." John called him back over but Ashton walked past the man and grabbed his hoodie from a small hook behind the bar. "My shifts over, sorry."
Ashton pulled on a dark grey hoodie over his head, covering his uniform. He then grabbed a black beanie and put it on the back of his head so that the front part of his hair was still sticking out. The boy then walked back down the length of the bar and sat down beside me. "So, are you going to give me your number or are you playing it hard to get?" He asked, placing his phone in front of me once again.
I pushed the phone back towards him. "Buy me a drink and we'll see." I played it cool. Truth is, I just wanted to see how long it would take him to lose interest. Boys like him move on if they don't get what they want after like twenty minutes of trying, if that. I know people say don't judge a book by its cover but this books cover screams asshole. The book itself literally has neon flashing lights saying 'no'.
Ashton called over his friend who was behind the bar. "What do you want? You can have anything." He asked as his friend stood in front of us. The boy didn't seem surprised by Ashton's actions so it was pretty obvious that this happens a lot. I wanted something alcoholic, I'm 18 now so I can but I want to wait until I'm with Calum.
"I'll just have a coke." I asked Ashton's friend.
Ashton put his hand up to stop his friend from making my drink. He turned to face me with a face that looked like I had just killed his cat. "Are you not even 18? I was going to buy you alcohol!" His face was shocked and I swear I saw him scoot a little further away from me.
"I am 18, today in fact." I said matter of factly.
Then something clicked. His mouth turned up in to a smug grin and he turned back to face me. "I knew it. You're one of the goodie goodies aren't you?" He laughed slightly, clearly amused by his random assumption. "I'll have a Jack Daniels, mate." He focused on his friend for a second before he turned back to me, waiting for my response.
"No, I'm not a 'goodie goodie'. It's my birthday and I'm waiting for my brother." Ashton's friend arrived back with a double shot of Jack Daniels and a pint of coke for me. Without accepting money, he walked off back down the other end of the bar. "Are you not paying for these?"
Ashton just laughed at me, shaking his head. "And you say you're not a goodie goodie." He took a glug of his whiskey, barely pulling a face as the liquor burns down his throat. "It goes on a tab, I'll pay at the end."
I didn't bother responding to Ashton, already knowing that our conversation was pointless and bound to go nowhere. There was something about the boy that really bothered me. Everything that he did or said just screamed self centered. Yeah, he's bought me a drink but that's probably because he thinks I'm going to jump right in to bed with him without a second thought if he pays for one lousy pint of coke. I'm not that type of girl so that's definitely not happening.
I don't know why I find the need to be one over on Ashton. The only feasible reason that I have is that it's fun to see him confused. Clearly he is used to having everything handed to him on a plate and i want to do the complete opposite. We're both totally different in every single way.
Just as I was about to get up and move away from him to sit on my own somewhere else, Calum sat down on my other side. "You're never going to guess what." He whispered in my ear.
I swivelled round on my seat so that my back was to Ashton and I was fully facing Calum. His face was bright and happy and a huge contrast to the one I've been seeing for the last fifteen minutes. "You showered?" I joked. He laughed and then pulled out a crumpled piece of paper from his jean back pockets.
He shook his head and then handed me the paper, already looking happy before I'd had the chance to read it. I scanned over all of the words, making sure to read each and every single one of them. Capitol. Band. London. All the words confused the hell out of me. Since when was this even a thing? However confusing these words seemed to be to me right now, the most confusing were the '+ Sister' that had been pencilled in at the top.
Nonetheless, my brother has managed to get himself signed to a record label. That's incredible news and hes been trying for so long now. No one deserves it more than my brother and its good to see something go right for him for once.
I folded up the paper and handed it back to Calum. "That's amazing!" I hugged the older boy, holding him in tight. "Well done!" I added.
"We leave next week!" This sentence caught Ashtons attention. He span my chair back around and peered across me to see Calum.
I tried spinning my chair back around to block the boy out, but he kept a firm grip on the stool, not allowing me to move. "Where you off mate?" He questioned. Calum didn't look fazed by the nosy boy and kept the same ecstatic face that hes worn since he came back downstairs.
"London. I've just been put in a band." He answered proudly. I had read in the letter that he had been put in a band i just haven't had the chance to question it yet. It was one of the things that confused me the most about the entire situation. Calum is and has only ever been a solo artist. He has never been a band or probably even thought about it. Capitol must have known this before they decided on signing him.
"Do you even know who you've been put in a band with yet?" I could only imagine the look on his face if it turns out that hes been put in a band with some lame losers. We could both be packing up out stuff and moving in with some weirdos that we have never even met before.
"Yeah, Luke and his friend Michael. You spoke to Luke earlier and it was his friend from the YouTube," Ashton suddenly removed himself from his chair, pushing his empty whiskey glass halfway across the bar. Without a word, he left Calum and I in a rage.
