Kaylin
Scott, Calvin, and our protection detail as Lena referred too it, walked around the surrounding area. I noticed some shops, places to eat, a book shop that just seemed that it would be full of hidden treasures, and even a movie theater. We had all decided to take a walk to a nearby lake that was supposed to be breathtaking. Really what it seem was Scott and Calvin wanted a calming place as the explained more of vampires, werewolves, mates, souls, seals, and this gathering that was soon to happen.
The plan was already working, we were only on the trail and I was already feeling it's tranquil embrace. The path had naturally been worn down from years of travel, the trees so high and thick that the sun barely could touch the ground. When you inhaled you could feel just the untainted air cleanse you. Oaks, pines, dirt, flowers, just nature. Pure and perfect.
Every now and then I'd end up ahead of the group, my curiosity lead my feet, I wanted to explore, I'm glad Scott suggested I'd switch shoes. Peeking back I'd see 4 sets of eyes just watching me all with different expressions. Scott's could only be described as pure happiness, Calvin was like a big brother that was watching out for me but still smiles at my own happiness. Lena's was harder to guess, she seemed happy that I was enjoying myself, she also looked conflicted. There's no doubt that her friend was just annoyed and pissed off, at what or whom I wasn't sure. I had a good inkling it was me though.
"I see it!" I shouted as my feet took off, like a child in a candy store I was just too impatient to wait. Chuckles from the group followed behind me as they gave me the freedom to go ahead.
I thought places like this only existed in far away destinations, hidden by locals that wanted to leave the paradise from the world. The trees were the most vibrant green I'd ever seen, the flowers were all in perfect bloom as if they had only just opened for me, the water was clear that I was sure it just a large mirror places on top of a hole. The field that swallowed the lake was large, filled will wild flowers and naturally tamed grass that brushed just above my ankles and tickled me.
"It's the most perfect thing I've ever seen," awe saturated my voice.
"Woah, what about me?!" Scott joked as the group caught up to me.
"Eh," I winked as I shrugged and landed a playful blow to his ego.
We traced the edge of the water until we found a fallen tree to sit against. Scott and Calvin naturally sat on each side of me, Scott immediately pulled me into his side and loosely draped his arm around my shoulders. Only Lena came out, her friend stayed behind in the woods, I'm pretty sure he didn't like me at all. I understand disliking babysitting duty but he seemed to go out of his way to act like this was a form of torture for him.
"I assume you brought me here so we could finish our conversation," breaking the ice as I peaked up at Scott.
"Nothing gets by my angel, does it?" he chuckled, lovingly pulling me closer into his side.
"Apparently associating myself with multiple species does," I jabbed playfully, plastering a grin on my face. Lena and Calvin found my jab to be hilarious, leaving Scott to sulk.
"That was never my intention Kaylin, you know that," he sighed. "Of course we do have a lot to cover, I didn't even scratch the surface,."
"Lena, is it okay to ask what you are?" my voice grew small, I didn't know if asking was considered rude to them. Not only was I learning about their existence, I would have to learn their customs, traditions, and etiquette.
"I'm a werewolf, most of the people you saw yesterday were werewolves. Some were humans, but we have other types of people that are in our pack," she explained. Her voice was polite and sweet, she didn't make me feel odd for asking, or stupid for not knowing.
